I think I had a bout of it Monday night. It was hubby's birthday and we went to Red Lobster. About 3 hours after I got home I was sick as a dog with body aches, low grade fever, very bad tummy pain and the ever dreaded big "D" which finally all calmed down the next day. I had had a flu shot so didn't feel I had the flu, plus the flu doesn't come along with stomache pain and diarreah. I called Red Lobster the next day and reported it to them. I also called the Health department but we have been playing telephone tag, and I want to report it to them. I hate this, I feel something should be done about restuarants that don't clean their kitchens properly or inspect their food. this is the second time I have had food poisoning. The first time was from tainted peanut butter a couple of years ago. It's still in litigation. So, they haven't killed me yet, but they keep trying! Anyone else ever had food poisoning?

My husband had food poisoning once, we went to macdonalds for some tea and he had his usual big mac and fries, we had not been back home long and he was really sick, he was really bad. I do not normally complain, but this caused him to be off work for a few days and he ended up with a warning from work too and so I wrote to macdonalds and told them about it. They investigated the complaint and they accepted responsibility and we ended up with loads of macdonalds vouchers as compensation! Oh and a letter of apology.

Yeah I know we said that! We should have done really but we did not really know much about all that sort of thing back then as this was about 8 years ago.

Yes. I think I have had a bout of it also at least one time. I don't remember what I had eaten but it really tore my stomach up and made it hurt really bad. I thought I had to use the restroom but that was not the case at all. I sat in the bathroom and my stomach hurt really bad and I broke out in a very cold sweat but was burning up all at the same time. I had to have my daughter put a fan on me. I know I sat there for two hours while wandering if I needed to use the bathroom. It was very painful and it made me sick to my stomach also.

Nope. I forgot what it was that I had ate that made me so sick. It was quite a while back when it happened. There are alot of recalls on food these days too. Alot of food is not very appealing to me anymore because of it either.

Oh dear, I am sorry to hear of your misfortune. Yes, I feel your pain. I have had food poisoning on several occassions. The most recent event occured just a little over a week ago. Hubby and I ate out at the only 'chain' restaurant in this tiny town, Applebees. He and I shared an appetizer (the chicken quesadillas). We ate about 6 pm. Around midnight I started having violent cramps, nausea, and diarrhea. These symptoms lasted through the night and most of the next day. I even lost a day of work (my first in 10 years). The funny thing is, hubby was fine. Being a nurse, I am aware of when GI bugs are going around town and other such things. There was no GI bug circulating and I honestly feel I had food poisoning. I don't know about your town, but here the darned health dept ANNOUNCES to the restaurant when the health inspection is going to occur. So of course, the restaurant tidys up and cleans like mad. Between inspections, who knows what is going on. I really feel that inspections from the Health Department should occur at random and unannounced.

Sorry about your ordeal. You are right, they should have "surprise" visits. I was probably just a victim of "being in the wrong place at the wrong time" Most the time, I'm sure the place is okay...botulism happens very easily and can happen to anyone. Sure makes me not want to eat out any more.

My husband just got over a dose of it. We can't figure out what it could have been and are still considering the virus possibility. I had it a number of years ago just a few hours after eating at a restaurant. I know it was food poisoning because a friend who had dinner with us, and ordered the same entree as I did, was sick as well. Miserable to go through huh? I looked up the symptoms and so many of the symptoms are the same as the gastrointestinal flu virus - how does one know? whit

yeah I have been there twice. Once was from bad food at restaurant while on vacation me and everyone else i was with spent more than a week hoping none of us had to run to the bathroom at the same time. The worst part was we were exactly sure which restaurant made us sick since we had eaten at 9 different places spread across 5 states during the potential incubation period.
The second time I did to myself. I had head stuffed so bad I couldn't smell anything and my sense of taste was completely off, so I ate some things in the fridge just happy I didn't have to fix them. That was a bad a bad decision...

lasted for about forty eight hours,I keept having the cucumber taste in my mouth most of the time, bit like reflux.Someone told me never to eat cucumber that is not fresh,or has been laying around for too long.
Noticed you mentioned Red Lobster, did you eat seafood,if so
may be a idea to be certain you do not have an allergy to same.
P.S. Happy Belated Birthday to Hubby!

Yes I have. My family and I ordered pizza from a local pizzeria. We got SOOOOO sick. We called the maanager his attitude was "What do you want, free pizza?"We did call the health department several times, by the time they got back to us a week later we were better. But no one went to work for 3-4 days. Haven't eaten there since.

Good heavens no. I don't want to experience it. The worse I got from eating is tummy pain... due to over-eating. Good thing that's all that happened to you and not worse. I believe that, no matter how careful you are, accident happens. Just imagine, it was Red Lobster and to think that you spend a lot so you can eat good... you end up sick. It's unfair. You are right, somebody have to do something about it before it will be too late. Hope you are feeling ok now.

You are definitely not alone. Infact, I don't eat out much because I've caught it a few times in the past. You just don't know anymore and so many young people working in these places don't care. (not all young people, but enough of them to have this problem)
I think the worst case of food poisoning that I got was from United Dairy Farmers (a gas station/convenient store). I got it from a shake that I ordered and I guess they didn't clean there mixer properly. Everyone that got a shake that day with me had issues, but I was the only one that finished all of mine, so I got it worst. I haven't gotten a shake from them since and that was several years ago.
I agree something more should be done to these places. I never filed a complaint because I figured there wasn't anyway to prove that I got it from them. Good luck to you and i hope your feeling better. I'd at least stay away from that particular Red Lobster if I were you.
