What are some of your favorite "one hit wonders"?

So many songs came out that I really loved yet they ended up being one hit wonders as they call them. I could never figure out how a singer or group could come out with something awesome and never do it again. My list would be long but just to name a few I would say....Rappers Delight by the Sugarhill Gang (I loved that ridiculous song!), Somebodys Knockin' by Terri Gibbs are just a couple that I can think of off the top of my head. What are some of your favorite One Hit Wonders?

Well I don't know if this is a one hit wonder, Don't Worry, Be Happy. The there is, The Double Dutch Bus. I do not understand how people with talent come out with one song and then fade away either. Seems like if they could do it once they could get the same people to help them and do it again.

I love Don't Worry, Be Happy and even have the words written down and hung up in different places around my apartment. I think those are great words to live by.

I have two favorite one hit wonders. "Billy, Don't Be A Hero" by Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods and "Play That Funky Music" by Wild Cherry. Both, are still favorite songs of mine and I still sing them around the house to the point where it drives Bruce crazy. LOL Good topic

Whenever I read "One Hit Wonders", I always think of "That Thing You Do" by The Wonders. It's not actually a real-life band but it's a band in a Tom Hanks movie which was set in the 1960's and they were this band called The Wonders who had a hit "That Thing You Do". The film was about the rise and fall of the 60's band and I liked the song, it's really catchy!

I think a few of these artists may have had more than one hit, but I'm having trouble remembering. Scritti Politti (sp?) - "A Perfect Way" Young MC - "Bust A Move" The Buggles - "Video Killed The Radio Star" Wang Chung - "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" Dexy's Midnight Runners - "Come On Eileen" Gerardo - "Rico Suave" Madness - "Our House"

I love that song That Thing You Do from the movie That thing you do. You never hear those guys anymore. Also, I loved Breaking All The Rules, which came out about 1996-97. That was an awesome song! You never hear that group anymore as well.

This is a really nice topic to talk on..... Many times I have pondered on this. There were lot of them "THE ONE HIT WONDERS" in the 80's. By hits I mean really great songs. Let me make a songlist..... Susanna - The Art Company, A Good Heart - Feargal Sharkey, If I was - Midguire, It's A Wonderful Life - Black, Take My Breath Away - Berlin, Holding Back The Years - Simply Red, Tarzen Boy - Baltimora, Turn Back The Clock - Johnny Hates Jazz, Nineteen - Paul Hardcastle, Shake You Down - Gregory Abbott, Let's Go All The way - Sly Fox, Don't worry Be happy - Bobby McFerrin, Mary's Prayer - Danny Wilson, She Drives me Crazy - Fine Young Cannibals, Never Gonna Give You Up - Rick Ashtley Lady In Red - Chris Dee Burg, The last one being the greatest of them all. There are a lot of Hollywood stars who have sung great songs but I have not included them in the list. Also missing are songs from bands which gathered only for a project.
