Medical Billing, Schools? Work? Legit?

Hello, My friend and I are looking into doing medical billing from home. We're looking into schools, do you need to go to school? if so, can it be online? What are good schools. What places normally would you call to put in an application to do medical billing for them? Any other information on this would be GREAT because we really don't have much of an Idea about it. Also, if anyone is doing this sort of thing, how much could you get paid? how does it work? Thanks!
