The US government will begin distributing economic stimulus checks in May. They are supposed to be spent on new purchases to give the ailing economy a shot in the arm. Do you think it will work? What will you spend your check on-new stuff, pay bills, save it, have a good time....?

Whether it works or not is up to everyone guessing, there is no clear line and condition impose on the big corporations that receive this huge bailout money, chances that large percentage will go to CEO pay package and compensation as usual, it is not like government give individual tax rebate or spending money for necessity, so majority of people do not get to do things like you mentioned above, whether economy is going to get a kick start or not is unclear, but big corporations is definitely seeing increase in their cash flow soon.

I think it's going to work, but in a less efficient manner. Most people will spend the money paritally when they receive it. They usually keep a little for the savings. So either way, the money being spent will spur the economy because more money are circulating in the market from buyer to seller indefinitely. The money that are saved in the bank, will be loaned to the person who intend to apply for mortgage. If I am getting a check, I will spend 20~30% of it for electronic gadget and save the rest in the bank.

We divided ours in 4 ways. My husband got 1/4 to spend any way he wanted, I got 1/4 to use any way I wanted, we put 1/4 in savings, and used 1/4 for vacation. Do we stimulated the economy at least a little bit.
