A song that takes you back...

You know that feeling you get when you hear a song out of the blue that you haven't heard in awhile and it takes you back to a time when things were different than they are now and a smile creeps across your face at the exact same time as a single tear wells up in your eye? That happened to me tonight.
4 months ago I lost a dear friend. Alice Cooper's "You and Me" was our song. At times I miss my friend so much that it physically aches, but I know the hands of time can't be turned back. So I march forward and take with me only the good memories.
Most of the time I am okay with the way my life has turned out. But tonight I was in a restaurant and heard the first few notes of a familiar song and my friend's face flashed into my mind. I was disoriented for a moment, trying to figure out why I felt as if I had been hit in the chest. Then I realized what song it was.
I smiled, remembered the good times, wiped the tear from my eye and finished my pulled pork bbq sandwich. I know that I can't talk to my friend, but putting what I was feeling tonight into words helps me to get through another day without him in my life.

Its amazing how a song can spark such memories. I have had it happen to me before too. Sometimes it takes me back to a time instead of a particular person. A song that makes me think of high school. Or a song that makes me think of growing up. Sometimes they can bring the best feelings and sometimes not so much. Sorry about your loss.
