Lullabies and Sleepy Eyes

As I was rocking my 9-month old daughter to sleep tonight, singing to her some of her favorite lullabies, I couldn't help but wonder, to how many other mothers, and daddys too, is this a delightful nightly ritual with your children? I know that reading to your children is extremely beneficial starting at a young age, and I do this too, of course, but singing and sweet, sleepy babies seem to go hand-in-hand with a peaceful night.
Some of my daughter's favorite nighttime songs include "All The Pretty Little Horses," "Hush Little Baby," and "Edelweiss" (one of my favorite childhood songs from The Sound of Music). I give her her last bottle of milk while I rock her in my glider, and sing to her gently for about fifteen minutes. When the bottle is empty, her eyes are heavy and she's ready for bed. It's a quiet and precious time for us, one that I think we both cherish and look forward to at the end of our busy days.
What are your bedtime traditions with your child? Do you ever sing to them, and if so, what are your most cherished lullabies?
Sweet Dreams!

This is a good discussion! When my daughter was of that age, I used to sing Hush Little Baby and other songs that I would remember off the top of my head. Sometimes I would play a tape for her of lullabies. Darn my bad memory! Sometimes I would just sing her love songs that I remembered. It is such a precious time to share with our little ones. They feel secure and loved and you get to feel their precious little bodies against you falling into dreamland. I miss that so much. I just don't see my 13 year old climbing into my lap for a lullaby hahaha!
