Walt Whitman's poems have been translated into almost every major language in the world. These poems provide inspiration to people and Whitman is universally recognized as one of the world's greatest poets. Today I read "Song of Myself" from his masterpiece The Leaves of Grass. I like it for it reveals a world of equality, without rank and hierarchy. Have you ever read Whitman? Do you like Song of Myself?

I've not read much of walt Whitman but I have read song of myself and I especially love this bit of it. I should read more of his works but it's finding the time. I think I could turn and live with animals, they are so placid and self-contain'd, I stand and look at them long and long. They do not sweat and whine about their condition, They do not lie awake in the dark and weep for their sins, They do not make me sick discussing their duty to God, Not one is dissatisfied, not one is demented with the mania of owning things, Not one kneels to another, nor to his kind that lived thousands of years ago, Not one is respectable or unhappy over the whole earth.
