Do you use a financial planner?

Financial planning is the new 'thing' here in India. Have you ever used a financial planner? Does it help? I have had only one consultation with a real financial planner (fee based, as opposed to brokerage based) and I think it really helped me put all my goals in perspective. Though I have not yet followed up on all his recommendations, mainly because the markets have been falling for some time. But I think I will follow up on his recommendations. Anyone have any stories to tell?
