Early inthe week I mentioned about having difficulty getting to see a doctor for my daughter, well its just one of those weeks and need some advice as to what to say to my little boys (who is 4) teacher when I get up the school in a few hours. I came home from work last night to be informed by my child minder that another pupil had thrown something at him but the teacher had said he was ok though. My child is sleeping when I get home and upon waking this morning he was crying he head hurt he has two cuts and a bruise and lump at the side of his head and then proceeded to tell me this item was actually a CHAIR! If a child is hurt at school it is my belief that they should have rang me at work to let me know, do you agree with me and what sort of conversation should I have with his teacher. Am I overreacting or am I justified in feeling that I should have been personaly informed at the time. Please share your thoughts. Ellie :D

you should lodge a complaint with to the authorities. the teacher should have told you what was thrown from the start. what if the injuries weren't just superficial? the parents of the kid that threw the chair should be made to pay the medical bills.

Hi Thanks for your response. I have now talked to them and they have apologised for not informing them. I did also ask what action they took against the other child and they said they had told him he musn't throw things because he could hurt someone and not to do it again. They have promised to inform me if another event occurs (hopefully there won't be one). Ellie :D

Yes they should have called you. It can be hard for parents to talk to a teacher because as we were young we were taught that people like teachers in authority are not to be questioned. When you go in don't think of this person as a teacher but as your equal which they are. I have also found that fewer words can make them a bit more nervous then getting carried away. I would walk in with your child and say "Would you like to explain this to me?" Give that look you would your child if they broke your favorite vase. After the teacher tells you the story and provided she has told you everything then say "Now will you explain to me why I was not called when it is clear my child was injured?" Make sure to continue "the look" At this point you will have teacher that realizes they messed up big time and that you will not tolerate it. When she is finished be blunt and say "if my child is injured in your care I expect to receive a call and I will not tolerate this again." I promise it will never happen again. I really have a concern that with a bump on his head no one checked it out. Keep an eye on things and remember you have the right to have expectations of your child's safety!

Thank you so much for this advice I really appreciate it. It bad enough that I do have to work sometimes and leave him in anothers care, but to not be informed by the school, they have all my contact numbers, I feel is very wrong. Yes I will remain calm but strong and indicate that any future events (hopefully there won't be any) I wish to be informed of immediately. Its strange that something always happens when I am not the one collecting him. Thanks again. Ellie :D
