Do you eat all your leftovers?

I have to admit years back I wouldn't eat leftovers. Not really sure why but just didn't do it. Now with more children I tend to eat them more but still end up with them way too long in the frige and throw so much food out. If I cut back on what I cook then there isn't enough and if I cook more my frige gets filled with too many leftovers. So what do you do with leftovers? Any hints you care to share to do with leftovers?

I either pack the leftovers up for my husband to eat for his lunch or one of my kids will eat them before the next morning.
That is the advantage in having 3 teenage boys. There are never leftovers for too long.
If I make something like a turkey where there is a lot of meat leftover, I will freeze the rest of the meat and use it later for another dinner.

Ifind that cooking for one I sometimes have more meat leftover than I can use up safely so I also cut it up into smaller sizes and put them in the freezer for another day.

Well, it used to be that we keep the leftovers for lunch the next day.
However, we subsequently found that nobody was really excited about leftovers.
And so, we cook just enough now. We eat everything that is cooked.
The bad thing is that the resident cook finds it hard to gauge the portions and despites years, the portions are always too large.
That means you eat more than you need and with all the side effects.

Oh yes when you eat more than you need comes the battle of the bulge!

My husband usually eats our left overs during lunch the next day however, if there's enough, I'll tell him not to eat it so we can make another dinner out of it the following night or I'll put it in the freezer for another day's meal. We throw some things out but not much thanks to hubby.

I eat most of our leftovers that my family cooks but yea of course. My family we do not believe in just wasting food. That is the way my mom and grandma raised me. We never believe in just throwing away food. You have families, young children. You have people who do not have no food at all, and we complain about it, plus we just throw away food for no reason. I mean how crazy is that.

I can't say we eat all our leftovers. But we also don't cook alot to be leftover. Mostly if we have extra it is enough to finish off the next day. Sometimes we just give it to the dogs if it isn't much. The only hint I have with using leftovers is what to do with mashed potatoes. Look up a recipe name "Potato Cakes"
Usually it takes day old mashed potatoes and you mix in a bit of flour and spices and some milk I think and you can put cheese and bacon or anything in the middle of the two patties of the mixture and yum! Oh, you fry it up of course!

Alot of the time I have a day where I just warm up the leftovers from the past 3 days and have a clean up day. My family doesn't even buck it. They race to the table so they get the first pick of everything.

with the poverty hitting our economy and a lot of families who barely have food to eat in the table it is necessary to consume all the food we cook and avoid left overs as much as possible, we can do that by carefully planning what food to prepare for our family, we need to know what they like to eat so as to avoid wasting our effort and feeding the garbage truck.
in our house as much as possible we avoid cooking too much food and prepare only what we think is enough for us in a particular day. its really hard when we cook too much and left with leftovers in the fridge, chances are we would end up throwing them the other day since most of us hate to eat left overs.

I am guilty of not eating leftovers too. I can barely afford to keep food on the table but when it comes down to eating the same thing over and over again I just can't do it. Chili is about the only food that I can eat as a left over.

Hi there... Yes sure, we eat our leftovers, especially from the night before, and we usually just throw them in an omelette, or have it on toast, there are many ways to use up lefties... Anything over 2 days, belongs to our dog... Have a great day...

Hi TriciaW, I was raised at a time when there was barely enough food for everyone in the family, so I never throw away food. It often bothers me when I see people throw out a lot of good food that could be reheated. I guess I really don't have any hints to share. Blessings.

I do try to use up all my leftovers but when it comes to things like meat I toss after a few days as I feel that a doctor bill because I became ill from eating meat that was too long in the fridge is more costly than that of tossing left over meat. I cook for only myself so its a constant battle of balancing how much I prepare. I have to eat enough to keep my blood sugar in balance and not enough to gain more weight. I often make new dishs out of some of my leftovers if they are foods that will go well together. I know with the cost of food rising all the time that I do try to end up with as few left overs as possible.

Your doctor comment reminded me of a funny. I had left over steak in the frige and it had been there too long and my husband ate it then got really sick. I called the doctor in a panic and said I think I poisoned my husband. He was like what? I told him I had steak in the frige and he ate it but I should have thrown it out now he won't stop throwing up. The doctor had me bring him in and it ended up being his appendix needed to be removed. The doctor said you lucked out this time you didn't poison him.

Yes. we do eat leftovers or turn them into something else, a new dish perhaps. Every food in the table, i value and would not want any to go to waste because others dont even have enough to eat. I feel guilty at times if foods that are still okay are out to trash.

I'd love to say, "Yes, we eat all of our leftovers." But we don't. I try not to make so much that there will be leftovers. Most of the time I succeed in that. On the times that there is food left over, my husband might eat it for lunch the next day.
Usually if it is not eaten the day after it was cooked, it doesn't get eaten at all. Then I end up having to throw it away. We don't have many leftovers though.

I have been cooking a long time and I pretty much know how much we will eat. I try to never cook more than we will eat at one meal. I rarely want leftovers. When I was working, if there was something extra, I took it for lunch. Now, though, it would probably just be wasted!

I don't always eat all my leftovers, but I try not to waste them. Like, yesterday and today I made some yummy wraps with some leftover salad. I also made some wraps with some leftover sloppy joe, just added cheese and popped it in the microwave, yumm...yummm :)
