Tatterhood and the Hobgoblins

I read this story to my daughter yesterday and I thought I'd recommend it. I don't think many people have head of it. It is taken from a Norwegian folktale. Two princesses, one beautiful and the other .. odd. It details their adventures, but is a short book as it is intended for children. A the end of the story, it is revealed that Tatterhood looks and acts oddly because she chooses to do so. She could be a beautiful princess at any time she wished (she is a little magical.) The unspoken moral of the story seems to be that one should not care about what other people think about your appearance or habits, to be inured to gossiping tongues. I found it a very excellent story. ... Along a similar vein, does anyone else have a perhaps uncommon story to suggest?

It sounds like an interesting book. I think that my brother, who is really still a kid at heart, would enjoy such a story. No uncommon stories that I can think of off the top of my head.

I know everyone knows about the Wizard of OZ. But L Frank Baum wrote an entire series of books about OZ. I am currently reading one to my daughter. It is called The Emerald City. She is really enjoying it.
