62 visits in the next year

I had a free consultation and massage at a local chiropractor a few weeks ago. I expected them to say I needed to continue to be seen, but after taking some x-rays, he determined that I have lost the natural curve in my neck and my spine curves. He recommended that I start seeing him 3 times a week and that I would need 62 visits over the next year. I thought 3 times a week was a little excessive. Also, they wanted me to schedule all 62 appointments right then and there. I decided against it completely when they insisted I schedule all the visits at once and did not budge on the 3 times a week thing. For them it was all or nothing. Would you have scheduled them? or said forget it?

No, I would definitely be calling around for some second opinions. I think the free consultation promotion is a little shady. Sadly, the doctor sounds a little desperate to me and I wouldn't want to trust my well-being to someone in that condition.

First of all, I don't think my insurance would pay for all those visits, so it would be a no contest. I can see three times a week for a few weeks, but not after a week or two. I can't believe they would schedule that many though and be so uncompromising about it. Do you have another chiropractor you could see?

I most certainly would not have done so. The hard-sell techniques are ones that I natural feel inclined to resist. Obviously, the office is concerned with raking in money. This is natural. But they are more interested in bullying people into signing up for a full year than it taking care of their patients. When a health-care office is so transparently interested in money, it makes you worry that they might be .. well, that they might be trying to milk you. Essentially, suggesting you need far more visits than you really need.
Sorry about your experience with this chiropractor, but it is really an issue of poor customer service.

No, I wouldn't have scheduled them. Actually, I'd suggest seeing an orthopedist for a second opinion, and also check out http://www.chirobase.org for more information on chiropractic. It can be useful for back pain, but there's an unfortunately large amount of pseudo-science and outright quackery being pushed by these folks. BTW, spines curve no matter what you do, the question is whether it's outside the range of normal curvature?

Egads! 3 times a week, 62 visits! No way would I have scheduled that. That's ridiculous to make you schedule all the visits right away. Whose schedule is that mundane that they can keep 62 pre-scheduled visits? Sounds like a sneaky way of getting more money - some places charge you for missed visits, and if you get busy and forget to call in....ooops $$ in their pocket!
3 times a week does sound excessive. What sort of procedure were they going to be doing to restore your back?

They charge $25 for a missed appointment that is not rescheduled within 7 days. 7 actual days, not business days.
They were going to be doing a basic adjustment using just pressure. Each visit would have been 3-5 minutes of adjustments and 10 minutes of therapy.

I never went to A chiropractor that scheduled me for 3 times a week, I find it extreme, and they are not suppose to schedule the full year the same day that is strange.I would change Chiropractor there is a lot them around and I'm sure there is a good one near you.

Three visits a week sounds a bit excessive, not to mention sixty-two total visits. I'm going by my physio now, when I had to have accupuncture. I was only allowed to visit twice a week, at most, as otherwise, the treatment being too excessive it wouldn't have worked properly. Then, I wasn't allowed to attend for more than three months, without a break in between, and not for more than two groups of sessions. So... that meant fifty-two total number of visits. These appointments were made a month at a time, not all at the beginning.
Now, my Physio is a much-respected, honest businessman, but I fear perhaps your Chiropractor isn't. He's wanting to make a fast buck out of you. If I were you, I would get a second opinion from a different Chiropractor. It might cost you for another visit elsewhere, but at least you'll have something to go on.
Brightest Blessings.

I've never eben to a chiroprater, however 62 visits does seem excessive to me and scheduling them all at once seems rediculous. How does anyone know what they're going to be doing in two or four or six months. I don't even know two weeks ahead of time. Try going to another chiropractor and see what tey say. If they make the same recommendation as the other one, I think you might have to consider undertaking these 62 appointments, but at least try to get them to be a little flexible on the scheduling thing.

I would have said forget about it. That is not professional and wreaks of a scam job. The chiropractor I used to see had me come 3 times a week for the first two weeks, and then twice a week for three more weeks after that. When that was over he told me if I wanted to, I could come back once a month for maintenance. And he told me if I couldn't pay right away (I had no insurance), he would make me affordable payment plans. I never had to pay up front either. I did have serious problems with my back as X-rays at a hospital had already told me. He did find that I had a curve in my spine as well, which didn't surprise me because so does my mom. I was so impressed with him. I wish everyone could find someone as honest as he is.

Forget it.!!
The practice of chiropractic care is shunned by a great majority of the medical community as it has not been proven to be successful at anything but temporarily relieving pressure.

I think this chiropractor is full of it. He is totally wrong with telling you 3 times a week and for 62 visits? What the. I don't beleive this for one minute. Usually the most visits for a particular problem is 12 visits and that is a course of a month. Some doctors will advise you going to a chiropractor as many of them don't know how to help you. I have a severe back injury. I went to try a new method and after 2 visits not only did I still have the lower back pain but has since moved up my spinal column and into my neck. Do you think I am going back to this guy. I am totally messed up now and my insurance company will not cover this as it was not related to my car accident. So basically I am stuck with this pain well till it's gone or forever. Needless to say I am not impressed and I told the guy off. I was very upset. In your case I would of told them where to go and right away as well. They probably would of looked and me and wouldn't of even said a word to me.

You'd be surprised to find how quickly those visits will add up, so 62 visits really isn't that bad...However, to make you schedule all of the appointments right then and there is ludicrous! I totally got screwed by my chiropractor--after 8 months of going 2 and 3 times a week, with no progression, mind you, they finally admitted that my insurance actually didn't cover any of it afterall! So, I would just say thanks, and walk away. Good luck!
