The remotes that arm the security system, and lock and unlock your Chevrolet, or other G.M. vehicle are about $45.00 from a dealership, plus, the service department will charge you to program the remote to the vehicle. Here is how to program the remote, which will save you a good bit of money. Additionally, you can use any G.M. remote of the same series and model number, so you can usually find these at garage sales, thrift stores, etc, for a dollar or two. PROGRAMMING THE REMOTE: Step ONE: Close drivers door, and HOLD lock button in Locked position Step TWO: Insert Key in Ignition, Remove, Insert, Remove, Insert, Remove. RELEASE LOCK BUTTON. Step THREE: Press the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons simultaneously, on the REMOTE. Release them. Step FOUR: Find the BLACK Connector in the RIGHT SIDE of Trunk. If it has ONE pin - short it to GROUND (The metal body of the car) If the Connector has TWO pins - Short them together. The Locks will cycle (You will hear them click) Hold LOCK AND UNLOCK buttons on Remote Simultaneously. Step FIVE: Locate the Fuse Box. (On G.M. it is usually below and to the left of steering wheel)Get in and CLOSE THE DOOR. Remove the fuse labeled "MAL PGM" Insert Ignition key, turn BACKWARDS to Accessory - you should hear a chime. Turn key off, then backward to accessory again - WITHIN ONE SECOND. Open Door, Close Door - you should hear a chime. Push Lock and Unlock at same time on remote You should hear a chime in 7 to 15 seconds. Turn Ignition key OFF. Insert the FUSE. Turn Key ON, then OFF. You are now out of the programming mode and the vehicle is normal, with a new remote programmed to it.
