What is the most uncomfortable place you've ever fallen asleep?

My apologies if this has already been asked, but as a narcoleptic, the subject really interests me. Since comfort is not an issue for me being able to fall asleep, I wondered if anyone had a good story about where, whether accidental or by bad fortune, you might have found yourself sleeping.

My son did that on a school bus and wasn't found until the driver's final walk through. That's no fun. Thanks!

It's not a good story at all. I tend to burn the candle at both ends so to speak because of working and kids and all. I took my daughter to the hairdressers once and while she was having her hair cut, I recall hearing from the back of my mind...."oh my, she must be really tired." It brought me to and standing over me were 2 women trying to ask me to look at my daughter's hair. I just fell asleep right there in front of everyone...it was very embarrassing for me and also for her which made it even more embarrassing for me.....i'm not fond of embarrassing my children.

I think all parents have to go through some experience of embarassing their children!
Your story really shows how life can wear us down! Thanks!

Living with My Grandfather at the time,I'd gone out with the car one night, returned home and found He'd locked the back door on the inside, and left the key in the lock..I'd put the car into the garage, and ended up going back to sleep in it! not a comfortable place at all..

Oh, I could sleep anywhere. I don't know why. I don't feel embarrassed or anything. I've slept on jeepneys (and other transportation vehicles) while on the way home (or travelling), on the stairs leading to the second floor in our college building (I'm just sitting leaning on the wall), on the table in our college, on a university yearbook office (I'm not a member), on the school field...
I guess my weirdest place would have to be the hallway of the elementary department. No, I was already in college. lol! Why was I there? That building was just 50 meters away from our college building. And they have a quadrangle before the building. We needed a place to practice cheerleading, so we went there. After practice, we rested on the hallway and I fell asleep. As in, lying down on the cold hard floor. And the hallway was an open type hallway, where the classrooms are only on one side and the other side has plantboxes and steps. So yeah, that was my weirdest and most uncomfortable place I've slept on.

My semi-educated guess is you would test as narcoleptic in a sleep study! It all sounds strangely familiar.

It was a long process after I started to get the more serious symptoms. Truth is narcolepsy doesn't have to be that severe, especially at a young age. Any time your body is failing to regulate your sleep cycle correctly you can be diagnosed with a simple overnight sleep test.
However, if you are feeling no adverse effects (no sluggishness or falling asleep without wanting to) then you probably don't have anything to worry about. If, at any point in your life, you start feeling your sleep isn't getting you enough rest, you should probably start talking to a doctor about it.
That goes for everybody. One report stated that up to 30% of Americans probably have primary or secondary narcolepsy at a mild to moderate level. Individuals who work crazy schedules and mixed shifts are especially at risk for disturbing their sleep cycle to the point where their body no longer can keep on track.
I definitely didn't mean to scare you, but if you start feeling bad for no other obvious reason, it is something to keep in mind. It took my doctors a long time to come up with the idea, but, if I had known about narcolepsy earlier, I could have at least helped make the connection.

Oh no! Do you think I'm narcoleptic? I've just read up on narcolepsy because I got curious. I don't have the other symptoms though, the cataplexy, sleep paralysis, hypnogogic hallucinations, and automatic behavior. But I find myself falling into deep sleep anytime, anywhere. And sometimes I even have dreams even when I've slept only for a few minutes. Do you think I have this condition?
I've never heard of narcolepsy before, just now. How did you find out you're narcoleptic?

I would have to say the hospital waiting room. Those chairs, at least in some hospitals, are uncomfortable!

The bus it was more uncomfortable in an embarrassing way because everyone noticed. It must have been comfortable physically because im not one to fall asleep unless im totally comfy, a trait i wish my daughter had where as she seems to think even the arm of the chair is a good place to sleep which is the most uncomfortable place she has ever fallen asleep!

Buses are tricky. It sometimes depends on the road or the driver. I hated it when my kids when fall asleep on MY arm sometimes, because it would get so uncomfortable but I didn't want to wake them.

My eldest would only ever sleep in the cot or pram, but my youngest likes nothing more than curling up on my knee and falling asleep usually pinning my arm beneath her she is by no means tiny at almost 2 and I often end up with pins and needles now that is uncomfy!

sleeping at other houses or friend's house. I really hate that. I tried sleeping at my friend's house before because of school projects and all that but as long as I can go home, I will. Even if it's 3 in the morning.
Second uncomfortable place I use to fall asleep is at our living room. We do have lots of windows at home and I don't like it when sunlight woke me up. I hate sunlight when I wake up.

I'm nearly vampiric when it comes to sunlight. I can sleep anywhere, but the sun is one of the worst things to wake up to. I used to have trouble at my cousin's house when I was little because it was such a big difference at the time. Like the song says, "Either way, it's okay, you wake up with yourself", but I don't know how comforting that is for me!
;)
Thanks!

You've had way too much "fun" with your sleeping spells! That's got to be one of the scariest, waking up in the dentist's chair!
Thanks for the response!

For me, I think the most uncomfortable place that I have ever fallen asleep is on the study table in the university library. There was this once that I felt so tired after lectures in university that I just popped into the library to have a quick nap. I managed to find a study table that no one was occupying and just slept there. The thing was that, I slept on my hands because the table was solid hard. That was quite an uncomfortable position to sleep in, honestly! After sleeping about 30 minutes or so, I woke up and tried to move my hands and to my horror, my hands felt numb plus it felt like pins and needles! Then it dawned on me that I had slept on my hand for so long that the blood supply to my hands have been so limited during that time. After that, I never slept in the library again. It was bad for my posture, as well as for my circulation!

Yeah, this sounds familiar. I tell ya, the librarians want you to be quiet, but they don't always appreciate sleeping!

I wouldn't worry too much about that, because the study table where I slept was miles away from the librarian's corner.....besides, I don't snore!

After a boozy night out with my mates, I came home and went to bed, in my lovely double bed. However when I started coming too the next morning or afternoon, I did not open my eyes straight away but lay there, after a minute or two I came to the conclusion that something was not right as my head felt all twisted and my neck felt very stiff. So cautiously I opened my eyes to come face to face with the back of the toilet bend! At some point in the night I had got out of bed with my double duvet and had gone into the bathroom and curled myself around the base of the toilet with my duvet over me! I could not figure out what on earth I had done or what on earth possessed me to do this. But with my head banging against my skull I did not think too long but went and got back into my bed to finish sleeping it off!!

It's when you answer questions while you're asleep in class that is the real trick. In college I had a prof. who was so predictable I could get away with jumping awake and making a reasonable guess!
Fun times!

I remember we had a training in a farm when I studied in the high school. One day when I was sleeping, I heard the knocking outside our door. I felt so scared and I dared not to move at all. I held my breath and stood it for a whole night. It was so horrible experience.

I fell asleep on the toilet one time when I was young. We had a big family reunion and everyone was at the farm where I lived....I guess I was just so tired I went down to go to the bathroom in the basement and fell right to sleep. Well when they missed me they had everyone going up and down the fields...wading in the cattle tank etc trying to find me....my mother was in a total panic!

the most uncomfortable place where i fell asleep was outside a room in the icu of a hospital. we waited for the results of my father's illness that i have fallen asleep outside, seated in the floor of the corridor. it's a good thing because i had somewhat temporarily relieved myself from worry and i was able to regained my strength back.

I went to a friend's house with another friend and although there was a guest room, we all wanted to sleep in the same room so we could talk. We decided to sleep in her living room and I got stuck on a recliner. It was so uncomfortable! Sitting straight up was bad, but actually reclining was even worse! Anytime I moved, I would have to adjust my weight so that I could keep it reclining. I kept waking up during the night too. The next night, I just opted for the floor!
