How much would you pay for childcare?

Since I started working, I had to quickly find childcare and asked a local neighbor. My son had recently started hanging out with the children in this family and they seemed to be doing a wonderful job in regard to being very attentive to him. Because I haven't had to pay for childcare for a long time, I really have no idea of the going rates. What do you pay for childcare or what would you be willing to pay per week?

I am lucky also in that a neighbour minds my son whilst I work, but I have theirs for them too in return. I have looked into childcare costs here in UK though so doubt if it will answer question and they wanted £3.75 per hour within school time which when you consider the minimum wage per hour is £5.52 that is a lot of money from your wages. I would see if you could come to an arrangement where you look after their children back if possible rather than pay money. Or ask them how much they require, hopefully not a lot eh! Ellie :D

A friend of mine and I trade kids occasionally, like she'll watch mine for me or I will watch hers for her. I can't see this happening unless you're very close though and would trust the other one completely with your kids. I would accept much less, say $25 a day to watch a child of a friend, for a stranger or somebody just wanting last minute childcare I would want at least $6 an hour if it was going to be more than 3 hours. Minimum wage here now is like 8 bucks! People are generally wanting more than 8 hours of childcare at a time. I can't see making $2 an hour for taking care of a child, that's almost highway robbery.
I did do childcare for somebody at this rate but it was only 3 days a week and she did provide me with everything. I did not have to buy diapers or extra food or a carseat or toys. She gave me swim diapers too and a float for the pool.

Around here, full day on the cheap for a school age child is $75/week and that is through the school during the summer. The 2 weeks that the school doesn't have daycare we pay $150/week. When he was younger we paid $135/week through KinderCare which seems to be the going rate for kids baby - school age. My nephew is 4 my brother pays $130/week that includes preschool. The girl I work with has an infant that she pay $140/week for at a small daycare center.
If you think about it that is less than minimum wage. If you paid $5.75 for 10 hours per day (9 hours while you work + 1 hour to you to get to the sitters), that is $57.50/day or $287.50/work week.

My friends pays $150 per 3 days for one child.
Fees in Chicago and suburbs are probably higher than in other cities. $150 is in the lower range.
My friend pays for sitter $12/hour

We have a babysitter for 5.00 per child per day. We have 2 children and it costs 50.00 a week, however, we live in a very small town the most expensive babysitter here costs about 100.00 a week for 2 kids. It's really not that bad, however our babysitter is a really awesome babysitter, and i'm really happy that she is not that expensive. I just let her know the sitaution that I have school, and my husband works, and she started watching the kids with no problem, and she is really good with them too. My kids adore her. They even ask to go over to her house and play, I mean she's really awesome. Just be careful because if you don't live in a town where everyone knows everybody else, then just check around for some references from that babysitter, you just have to be careful.

We need pay $69 per day for my son. It's very expensive. But we have to pay for that. Because both of us do not have time to look after my son at home. I just hope he can reach 5 quickly. And I can send him to pre-school. Then I need not pay for that.

$69 a day. You have got to be kidding me. I could never pay that amount. I might as well not work.

I guess I really do not belong here as I had never had to pay anyone to care for my kids during the week when I worked. Mymom and younger sister would sit if they were needed and as my huband was out on disability he was free to stay with them so I had worked nights as a nurses aid and slept days. my friends who have children in day care payanywhere from 75 a week to a 150 but that seems awfully expensive to me. I guess too it depends on how many children you have in daycare too. I imagine a neighbor probablywould not want to charge as much as a day care center surely.

I was paying $450 a week when all 3 were in day care. Now it's more like $450 per month, just for after school day care. What a relief!

I don't use childcare at the moment, but when I did, I had to pay $30 a day. That is about the max I am willing to pay, with 2 kids and needing 3 days a week, it just gets all too much!

Hmmm - all these rates sound fabulous. When I was paying for childcare for my two girls - I was paying about $1450 per month to send them to preschool. Then when I had my son, I was researching childcare expenses and people wanted upwards of $375 - $425 per week to care for all three (because I had an infant). Wow - talk about ridiculous! I was getting paid good money - but not that good! Why work all week long, and then after you pay for childcare, taxes, gas, all that you're only left with a few hundred dollars? No thanks ok. That's when I made the decision to stay at home with my babies - and that just happened this past March! I would say in my area now - maybe because of the recession, childcare averages are about $150 per week per child. This is in Southern California. You go to San Diego and people will try to charge $200 per infant. CRAZY expensive!

Childcare can take up most of your pay unless you find someone that just needs a little bit of extra income. Day care center rates are ridiculous.

Since I would not take less than 100-125 a week for providing childcare, I would probably not expect to find it any cheaper than that. However, that is still 400-500 for one child a month and unless you are making more than 3k a month, that's a pretty good chunk.

here in quebec, when my son was young 31 years ago I had to pay 50.00 a week,
now we have 7 dollars a day government programs, that is about half of what I had to pay.

I used to pay almost 3/4 of my wages when my son was very young and I still worked full time! I have no idea what the rate is now though, sorry. I look after my daughters friend before and after school a couple of days a week but O wouldn' take any payment from her mum as I have known her for most of her life and they get on very well, my son and partner love having her around too! In fact when we have her it makes my life easier as my daughter spends all the time with her friend instead of trying to think of ways to play mum up! lol I hope you find good and affordable childcare sweety! xxx

Childcare is a good job. Childcare job is like a job of parent. Mother is great because she performs this job of child care from the day of its coming in existence up till no time limit. She takes care of child health, she feeds and she uses her all available resources and abilities to help to grow the child. If some one else adopt the job of child care they should be paid as much as she or he become glad.

Well, it all depends what atar rating they are. 5 stars your ganna pay ALOT more then you qould for a 2 star. my daughter goes to a 5 star daycare they usually charge 35 a day. If your a student she gives you 10 dollars off so is 25 a day.
But since i am a single mom.i go through dss and they pay a portion of the daycare fee, and i pay the rest. right now i pay 75.
