When a clerk in a fancy clothing shop is rude to you what is your first reaction?
I walked into a fancy dress shop that had been recommended to me by a friend and before I could even begin looking at dresses this clerk came up to me and said, Madame we do not carry your sort of clothes here. The oversize dept is what you need." embarrassed as all sin I just left and went to JC Pennys. But I was a wuss. I admit I was overweight but she did not have to word it like that and be so rude about it and so loud too. She sort of looked down her nose at me as if I was a bag lady.

Honey, report her. I'm serious. The owner and manager would want to know. That is bad business, and who knows how many other customers she has driven away. I have never had that happen, but I urge you to call and ask to talk to the manager, and/or send a letter. That is despicable and I wish I had been with you. I would have fixed her attitude faster than she could spew forth drivel!

Next time just tell them, Its a good thing the size of my behind isn't a prerequsite for getting into heaven, But being rude and nasty to people might be a problem. Smile and tell them to have a nice day. That will give them something to think about.

I am so sorry that the clerk was so rude to you. There is no excuse for that person to be so condescending. It makes me so mad! My experience has always been that the clerks in the upscale shops are rude and snotty. Why are they that way? What makes me even angrier is that I let them intimidate me, and I usually leave those shops. If a person is rude to me, I don't return. Depending on the day, I will ask for the manager and complain. There's no excuse for someone to be rude.

I agree and its sad to say but maybe not come to think of it the shop closed its doors and moved to the east someplace. I heard rumors that they closed because they had so many complaints against that one clerk.

Oh for crying outloud...That was just simply "rude"...I would have responded like this, "How dare you speak to me like that!" "And how do you know what it is that I do or don't need?" And then I would have left....

Oh boy, it was that lady's lucky day - she didn't say that to me! I am a nice person and always give the benefit of the doubt and stuff like that, but that comment was not even near totally uncalled for - it had "slap me into next week, please" written all over it! She'd a been blasted into next month if she'd said tat to me. i am sorry but things like that just make me so mad. I hope you do call or go back oh, hey - - - take a bunch of your friends and all of you go back in, and those that she deems "appropriate " for her store, have them all try on tons and tons of clothes and get her hopes of sales up and then as they put things on the register, say "Oh, I don't know about these after all. This just isn't my kind of store. I prefer stores that have not so rude clerks" and then all of you walk out!

I love it that would really have frosted her. the store did close two months later and rumor has it there were a number of complaints lodged against them so good for me.

The truth of the matter is, I've learned from working in sales that it's the customers who tend to be much more rude than the sales people. If the clerk seems rude to you, it's probably because they've had a dozen or so customers complaining to them about prices, or selection or a million other things that the poor clerk has no control over.
In fact, my wife works as a cashier and, at least a dozen times a day, she has a customer scream at her because they misread a sale sign or coupon and they think that's her fault.
I think they should throw out that whole "The customer is always right B.S. and let the employees speak their mind to the rude customers; then they won't take it out on other customers.

srhelmer you bring up a really valid point while Ihave never worked in sales I did workin a hospital as an aid and you would not believe some of the rude remarks made to us when we were trying to help sick people.I realized that illness does make a lot of people cranky but they should not take it out on the nurses as long as the nurses are doing a good job. I have heard customers scream at a clerk in a clothing shop for something that the clerk had no control over. thats just plain rude and stupid. the customer is not always right and clerks are human beings who should be respected. Perhaps my rude clerk had had those kind of problems and I was the one who got the brunt of it So many times I think a lot of people get the mistaken idea that those who serve them are just servants. thats so wrong.

I think in your case, I would have confronted this woman. She was way out of order speaking to you that way in public and loudly. That is the height of ignorance and snobbery... even prejudice. I would certainly have asked her to fetch the manager there and then, and if she couldn't comply, then I would ask her for the telephone number of the store's complaints department, in the same, loud manner that she had spoken to me. My betting is, she would have shrivelled up and backed off, at the very least.
Brightest Blessings.

i hate salesperson who are rude, they have no right to be rude because the SOP of every clothing company is to hire an saleslady with "Pleasing Personality" and so rudeness is unacceptable. besides who does she think she is? is she perfect?
as a sales staff she should always be polite and friendly to all prospective customers whether they will be buying or not,
she should not look at the customer and candidly embarrass them by directly saying that their clothes are not for them, for all she know that person might be buying clothes in bulk as a gift or to resell and she is loosing big sales because of her attitude.

Some people have the nerve!! I read that you called and spoke to the manager and he did jack crap. Sorry to hear you had to go through that, seriously though I can't believe anyone would treat people like that. I wonder who owns the business? I might have done some digging and taken it a bit further.

I found out later that they closed that shop and moved someplace in the east so maybe the rudeness of the clerk had something to do with it.

That is just so wrong and you were right to take your business elsewhere. You should probably lodge a formal complaint with the store HQ too.
The correct thing to do would be to let the customer view the clothings to her heart's desire.
Certainly being so blatantly curt does not ring good customer service.

i hate these kind of people... i had the same experience in our local mall here... i usually go to the mall in a casual outfit - shorts, t-shirt and sneaker.. when i entered into one of this high end electronic store, a clerk was looking at me.. when i was about to ask about him about the details of a new mobile phone im about to buy, he just turned his back on me and entertained another customer... i went to ask another clerk and did the same thing.. this pissed me off that i bought the phone throwing cash at the counter (literally throwing the bills all over them) instead of using my credit card... then i said to the manager, "the change goes to the two clerks you have there..they need to buy more manners"

This is outrageous! Clerks like this affect the entire store's botttom line and a bad experience like this can turn you off from ever shopping there again. You should have commented that you would rather go someplace else and look stylish than purchase any of their clown costumes.

This is unbelievable. I probably would have left as well but if I were you I definitely would call the corporate office if it is a chain store. If not I would find out who the owner is and send him a letter of complaint. Surely she could have given you a chance to look at the clothes. You would have realized yourself that they did not carry the size that you need. Some nerve of that snippety sales clerk. With that attitude she won't last long.

I just have to say shes lucky it was not me she was talking to. If you have problems with confrontation I would hope that you would call the store and complain so that know one else has to go through what you did. I would not just complain to the manager because sometimes there just as bad, I would call corporate or a district manager and they have to give you that information. By the way is there any way that you could share the name of the store.

What a horribly rude clerk! I would certainly be firing off a letter to the owner of the shop. I'm sorry, I would have had to say something to show her the error in her ways. I might have said something to the effect of, "Oh, I know you don't have my size. I was going to pick up 5-6 dresses for my daughter, but I believe that I'll be taking my business elsewhere as I have been totally turned off by your rude behavior." Seriously, I do feel that you should find out the owner's name and write to them or call them. Imagine if you owned the store and had an employee acting that way, wouldn't you want to know about it?

I never let rude people get away with it. Whenever I encounter this kind of people, especially front liners or sales people, either I talk to their managers or I write the administration of the store a letter of complaint.
I suggest that you write the owner of the dress shop or call customer service, and relay the experience. Mention the date, time, and description of the clerk so they can identify who is on duty on that day/shift. The clerk must be reprimanded, otherwise, she will continue doing it to other customers, giving a bad reputation to the store.

How rude. How did the clerk even know that you were looking at dresses for yourself. You should have reported her. But, you don't always think of these things at the time. Many years ago I had a girl friend at the University of Michigan. She had quite a generous allowance from her parents and could comfortably afford most things that she wanted. One time she went into a store, wearing usual student garb, so looking none too affluent and asked the price of a jacket. The response from the clerk was that it was way out of her league and she suggested the Thrift shop might be a better bet. My GF asked this woman to call her bank to establish that her money was good for the price of the jacket. She didn't know what the bank told the clerk, but there was an immediate reversal of attitude. Too late for the store though. My GF had made her point, and left.

Oh for goodness sakes.
How in the world would she even know what 'your sort of clothes' are?
I can't imagine someone being that rude. I would definitely have to say something, and I probably would have come up with a quick retort for that one. Oh boy, I'm mad just thinking about it.
So what if you happen to be larger and the things they carry wouldn't fit you? Aren't you allowed to window shop? Or maybe you were shopping for someone else (ha! she may have lost a big sale - serves her right!)
Regardless, even if they wouldn't have worked for you, I'm sure you could figure that out on your own and don't need some rude clerk to tell you. Why didn't she just leave you alone to shop in peace?
Why did she have to say anything at all?
I'm livid, and so sorry that you were treated like that. NO ONE deserves that sort of disrespect.
