Have you ever lost your job?

After working in a small company for many years our boss called us into her office the other day and sat us all down. She had decided the business wasn't making money and she was going to close it. We all kind of had a feeling something like this was going to happen, but none of us really believed it. It was the strangest thing as she told us I felt really positive and optimistic about my future. I don't know why because I have a mortgage, bills and no money, but for some silly reason I felt really happy about her decision. Have you ever felt really happy when something bad happened to you? How did it turn out in the end? Was it a positive experience?

I was laid off in January, a casualty in the recent mortgage crisis. Like you, I was happy, optimistic and positive about the future. I was burnt out at my last job and i really needed a change, so yes, the closure of my office came as blessing in disguise.
I have not had much luck finding another job, due to being picky. You can do that when you get a decent severence. It has freed up some time for me to rest and get some classes out of the way. I finished some projects around my house.
Good luck to you in your future endevors!

Hi: Ya, maybe just like you I am a little burnt out as well. Don't really know what burnt out means, but I know I was developing some heart problems. I am in a very stressful job in health care working with mentally challenged individuals. People have been encouraging me to slow down a bit, but I love the work. The pay isn't too great, but it's a regular pay cheque and that's important. When I told my friends about this closure they thought it was the best for me health wise, maybe it is. It's funny you know, I would have never left if our boss hadn't closed down. I don't think I'll get much of a severance package Now I feel like my life is beginning all over again and the world is open to me, I wonder what neat things will happen?

Did you try to explain and they wouldn't listen? That was totally unfair. Hope you got an even better job.
In my situation the company is closing unless somebody buys it in the the next couple of months. But the tension around here right now is so awful I don't think I'd want to stay anyway.

I have never lost a job.. but i lost some tasks in my job and yes, even though it is negative to others, i felt relieved by it. Not that i dont like the tasks, but the client on that particular project made me so stressed about life. I hated how i was when i was handling people from that particular project cause thought the team supported me and my decisions, out clients made sure as h*ll that our lives are miserable with them.
And so when they said they will pull it out, i was soo relieved.
