I hate it when people that don't know me call me babe, sweetie or honey. Well, I lie, if they are super hot men and they call me that I may melt. What I am talking about is when I get a thanks honey from some woman that I've never met before and don't particularly like. It makes shivers run up my spine. Does this bother you? Am I just a snot?

Some are just raised to be polite by using these words. My mom calls everyone honey. Its just my moms way of being polite.
There are times I feel uncomfortable when someone calls me honey or babe. It may be the appearance or demeanor of the person I don't know.

Hi there... Acutually this is the type of thing, I cant stand either. Even if they think they were being polite. Well not in my mind anyway. As soon as someone calls me babe, honey or sweetie and I dont know them, I get my back up and feel like saying "oh shut up you sleaze bag" Haha. Have a great day anyway...

Oh, you've got one of my pet peeves. I hate being called dear, honey, sweetie, by checkout people. Actually, I don't like it from anyone. I used to work with a guy that called me "babe". It was a little intriguing at first since I'd never been called "babe" at work, but it wasn't my favorite after awhile. I don't mind being called "mam", as I think this is being polite. I also didn't realize that in the south this is common using pet names folks you see in the public?...

Hahahahahaha! I swear that is one of my pet peeves!! One of the clerks up at the store was calling me dear and sweetie all the time and she doesn't even know me, the first time she ever met me she called me sweetie. That is so condescending and it really annoys me. Don't condescend to me you shrimp of a dumb-a$$ I want to say to her, so instead I just get real obnoxious so that she is forced to see the light... I am NOT her sweetie. I never even liked guys to call me stuff like that until my most favorite virtual lover called me Baby with a capital B. Shed a whole different light on that subject for me too. Hehehe.

I was born in England but moved to Australia in 1968 and notice that the English thing is to say 'hello love, how are you today?' or whatever. It's fine with me unless the person creeps me out... heck, I do it myself, because that's what I grew up with.

There is only one person that gets away with calling me babe. That is my mother. Heck, for a long time I thought that was my name! I'm only kidding! It doesn't matter where my mother and I are or who we're with, she calls me Babe. When my sister is in town for a visit, her name is Babe also. One might think that would get a little confusing, but it doesn't, because whoever answers is 'IT' for whatever she has on her mind. And that is not a bad thing. Another instance that I would welcome Babe would be from a significant other.
After having this conversation, I now wonder why I have never called my children Babe. Interesting.

Someone I know (well enough but not too well) calls me babe all the time...and I once told him not to do that because it makes me feel like a bimbo. It's just a word that slips out of his mouth and he doesn't even realize it. But I don't like it.
I've seen some ladies who call me 'honey' or 'darling' and I don't like that either. It seems like they are just throwing the words around when they don't mean it.
I never do it....not even to people I know well...sounds artificial to my ears (maybe because of these strangers who use it on me).

It doesn't bother me much if it's a woman who calls me that way. But if it comes from a man, I just hate it. I feel like I'm being disrespected. Especially when there are other people around. I feel so embarassed! Like I were some easy girl anybody can call names to. Here in the Philippines, they say "love", or sometimes "mahal" which also means "love", and sometimes "darling". It pisses me off a lot! Sometimes, when a man calls me that way, I would reply by saying "excuse me, I'm not your "love"(or Mahal, or darling).

Yes, remember that word... I would love the sound of it if it were my (American) fiance who would say it to me!

I usually dont think much about it but,i do think its not appropiate at times to use those terms like,if a guy calls a girl baby and she is obviously with her bf or husband!or the other way around.

In all honesty, I absolutley can't stand it!! Clients do it at my work and to me it's like they're basically saying, "I'm better than you". I don't know why I think that way but it bothers me severly. I just want to stand up and be like, "Hey! I'm older than you, have a better job than you and you have no right!". Haha, I'm weird like that though. Is that wrong? It just kinda ticks me off!
