Will populism be the biggest threat going forward ?

I think the biggest economic hurdle a democratic nation facing is populism .At the end of their term, governments turn to this trump card to get themselves elected, once more .This just rips off all their credibility of decision making in economic policies done in their entire term.This is not only true in developing nations but in developed nations too .what do you think about it and please share your suggestions, if any ?

You are actually right - populist budget especially as given this time was not expected out of someone like Chidambaram. It was really disheartening the way he dealt the whole issue of the budget, especially writing off the debt part. That is why I don't personally like the Congress - they can never take a bold step. It was the BJP that gave us our Pokharan nuclear deal just as it came into power. The congress succumbs to pressure.
