Between ball pen and fountain pen, which type of pen do you normally use?
Being a left-handed, I normally use ball pen because if I use fountain pen it tend to get smear on my palm. Not unless I sign the document then I will use fountain pen.
When we were in Secondary school, we were forced to use fountain pen in the public examination and as a result I was very slow in writing. Until today I don't see the reason of using fountain pen in the examination. Now the students are allow to use any pen so long as it is blue or black pen.
How about you, what type of pen do you prefer to use?

When I was a child I used pencil until I was ten years old. Then I used a fountain pen and I often got ink up my sleeve and on my skirt. On one occasion I had trouble getting a cartridge to work so I took it out of my pen and bit the end of it gently. oh dear! I then had ink all over me and my teacher wasn't at all happy about this situation. When I went to secondary school I began using a ball pen and really liked this. These days I still love to write with a black or blue ball pen. I am a primary school teacher and in Maths I put a tiny red dot next to a mistake in red ball pen. A cross would look horrible I think. I sometimes use green ball pen for note writing. I used to write very fast in ball pen for exams but since I began using computers a lot I don't write as quickly as I used to.

Thanks for giving me the best response. It is funny that you had a similar experience with ink than I did when I was younger. I have to be careful with pens because some are permanent markers and it would be terrible to use one on a white board. One school I taught at gave me a box of pencils to last one year for my class of children. The pencils go sharpened and got smaller. I ended up having to buy more pencils out of my own money. It is interesting that you are a teacher as well.

I had that kind of experience too using fountain pen. It smeared all over my shirt when I was in the lower secondary school. Those days, we must used fountain pen. Later in the upper secondary school, only then we are allow to use ball point pen and I write even faster using ball point pen.
Being a teacher myself, I used to carry with me 4 pens, 1 fountain pen and 3 ball pens of different color. The red is for me to check on students' work. Thanks for the sharing.

I agree with you that fountain pen is a bit messy and blotted. Sometime it even smear on the paper if we can't control the nip of the pen. Whereas ball point pen is easier to use and it nake the handwriting neat too. Thanks for the response.

Hello The Devil,
Yes fountain pen gives a better handwriting and you can adjust the angle of the nip, either to have a fine or round handwriting. As for me, I prefer ball point pen with fine nip. Thanks for responding.

I much prefer a fountain pen. The writing turns out much nicer, and the ink flow is better. I like to indulge in caligraphy, so I'm quite familiar with fountain pens.
When I was at school, we were never allowed to use biros. It was unheard of! We had an inkwell on our desk with ink in it, and had to use pens... if we didn't have our own fountain pen, then we had to use the school pen which was a piece of dowel type wood, with a nib pushed on the end, which you had to keep dipping in the ink. But, my handwriting at school was good.
Brightest Blessings.

Yes, I think the pen nib makes a difference. I can't get on with the really scratchy ones like we had in school.
I wonder if they could make a left-handed fountain pen? Hmmmm, just a thought. They have left-handed scissors and everything, so why not consider a left-handed fountain pen.

Thank you for your sharing Darkwing. Perhaps it depend of the type of fountain pen too. The expensive fountaion pen may do wonder to the handwriting. However, for left-handed it is still dificcult to use fountain pen as tend to get smear on the hand as they write.

I prefer to use fountain pens, as they write more smoothly, and as a result my writing is neater than when I use a ball point. I also find my writing looks neater in black ink than in blue.
I find that the ink that comes out of ball point pens has a rather sticky texture, and sticks to your hand and gets smeared.
it's also more eco-friendly not to throw away a pen when it runs out, but to replace an ink cartridge (Admittendly these are also plastic, but less wastefull than a whole pen)

Yes, I also write using ball point pen most of the time. Unless I sign document or filling in formal documents, then I will use my fountaion pen. I carry both pens in my pocket.

I love the elegance that can be achieved with a fountain pen! I also like the distinguished feel one gets when using a fountain pen to write with.
I no longer tend to use ball points, but much prefer to use a gel pen on the day to day basis.
The gel is so much smoother to write with and gives a more lasting impression on the paper.

Hi there... I find that using the fountain, my writing looks more smart and cleaner, actually writing with a fountain is much better, as the ball point can make the writing look scruffy in some way. But if I had no fountain then I wouldnt hesitate to use a ball point pen anyway...

Hello Nardz13. Perhaps good and expensive fountain pen do give an edge in term of the flow of the ink and with better result. I still prefer ball point pen because I'm so use of using it.
