Global Warming?

We had record snowfall this year and it's been the coldest in 12 years in Canada and in the U.S. and it's been similar in other places such as China. What happened to global warming? A major reason cited for the unusually cold winter and heavy snowfalls is the low sun spot activity. Does this mean that we don't know enough yet to predict that there is a definite global warming underway- that it's really premature to say that there is global warming? Is it possible that the global warming we experienced in the past few years is just part of a short cycle and therefore we should not waste time and resources on long term measures that may not be necessary in the first place? What are your thoughts?
