hi all mylotters
this is regularly a heated debate in our house, but in your opinions how long would you say is a reasonable amount of time for kids to use the computers in a day, or do you limit your kids to a certain time of day they can use them.

It really depends on what the child needs from the computer. These days, a lot of schoolwork is taking advantage of the convenience of the internet and other technologies. However, if a child is using the computer for things like games or chatting, you may want to remind them that there is a great wide world that lives outside of the monitor.

My little boy is too young to stay interested for more than a few minutes at a time so no problem there and my daughters are 21 and almost 17 so I let them decide now but when they were younger they were allowed to go on for an hour and a half each providing they had done their homework first. The younger getting the first time allocation and the eldest the later as thats when their ffriends would roughly be on too. They used to push it at times but always had computer in communal area so I could monitor. I'm probably worse than they are for staying on longer than I should, but as long as they have decent breaks in between sessions I feel is ok. Ellie :D

During the week, when they are going to school, I would limit them to an hour, or maybe ninety minutes to do their homework.
On days when they didn't go to school, I would probably limit them to two, two hour sessions per day, maximum, with outside play, or some other exercise in between. I think kids would waste a lot of their childhood on computers given half the chance, but I don't think it's good for them. They need to grow up knowing more about the outside world, becoming streetwise, if you like. They also need a certain amount of exercise each day, so I would definitely limit them.
Brightest Blessings.

I allow my children 1 hour of either computer or playstation time per week. I don't like to limit them to that little amount but with 7 of us in one house it becomes a hassle if they are on it to often. Plus I think 1 hour is more than enough time for them to play games online and take care of their NeoPets.
Time also depends on whether or not they do their chores throughout the week because it's called a privilege in our house. Since I have to do "chores" before I get my computer time I find it fair to do the same to them.
