How long do they live?

I have 3 pet mice. They are about 18 months old and I'm concerned about how much longer will they live. They are very dear to me and I will really miss them when they're gone.

Awww... I used to keep mice as pets when I was younger. :-) I think they are so adorable. I even had mine trained! Well to answer your question I believe the average "pet" mouse can live an up to average of 2 years. In the wild they live to about 18 months. I have heard that a mouse CAN live up to 5 years with proper care but I'm not sure if that is really accurate. I know they can live much longer than 2 years if you give them loving attention and keep them healthy and active. This is because they are getting the kind of care they might not get in the wild. I had quite a few mice as pets so a few did indeed live for a couple of years if not longer. A few passed on earlier and a few hit the 3 year mark from what I remember. It really just depends. When it's time for it to go it's time. I wouldn't worry too much about it. But I do understand that just because they are mice, they are still your pets and you care for them. I had gotten my mice from a pet store. The "feeder" mice that people buy to feed to their snakes! I felt good knowing that no matter how long they lived at least I saved them from a very uncomfortable experience. I wouldn't worry too much about them leaving you and just enjoy them while they are here with you. :)

Thanks! that is how I got my mice too. It makes me sad that people use these beautiful creatures to feed snakes. I keep telling myself that they are having a great life at home, they are very friendly and smart.

It's January 3rd and my mice are still alive. They look a bit old and they sleep more than they used to but they keep climbing out of their cage to use the wheel. Yes, you read correctly: they use the wheel outside the cage. Freaky little creatures!
