Do you like olives? Are you a green olive or black olive person if you like them? What are your favorite recipes with olives?
I like olives somewhat, they are good on salads and pizza but I haven't used them for much else. My hubby bought a giant jar of green olives, so looking for something to do with them!!
p.s.- he wants me to ask you guys since we can't find it anywhere online: how do they get the seeds out of an olive? And what are the red things inside green olives?
(Not sure where he's leading to with this one, lol!)

Yes, I do like olives. Quite a lot :)
There are some recipes like salads that use olives as part of the recipe but back home what we're used to is to eat them withe the food rather then in a recipe. Like there is usually a little bowl with olives at the table. So people are eating their food and will take the olives as they eat. We also use them as garnishing in certain food specially rice and even mashed potatoes.
Even when the olives are part of the recipe, they usually are added only after the food is cooked, unless it's sometimes that is baked like cod with mashed potatoes and in that case we put olives on top and then put everything in the oven.
I am sure that there are many other ways to use them, but this is the way I grew up with.
As for preferences it really depends on what I"m eating. In Portugal we tend to favor the little black ones. That's the ones that we alway add to the table at meals.
PErsonally I really like the greek ones. These ones instead of being kept in water and salt like we do for the black ones, usually already come in a vinegar liquid that makes them .. well vinegry LOL. NObody else in my home likes those except for me:)
THe green ones are good too but we don't use them as much. But in the end, and because they're so often used as garnish, sometimes it's just a matter of color - what looks better with the food we are serving :)
There is a special tool that will take the seeds out and live the olive intact otherwise, that's what they use to also stuff them with the red peppers.

Oh, I forgot. The tool used to take the core out is often part those manual garlic presses. On one end it has the garlic function and on the other , usually the handle, there is a part of the metal protruding on one side and a little oval area with a hole in the middle on the other. YOu put the olive in the oval area and then press the seed comes out and the olive stays intact.

I am from Louisiana and we put olives in the potato salad. It gives it a whole new taste and really good. I like the black olives best. We always have plenty of both on hand. The green ones are good I like the salt taste. If you want the recipe for the potato salad them email me and i will send it.

I'm not a fan of the stuffed green olives. But I do love the Smoked Garlic Green Olives that have the seed still inside. Those are soo yummy!
I do like black olives from time to time.
The red thing inside of some green olives is called a pimento. Not sure what the heck a pimento is though... The seeds are pretty tough to get out, I usually just eat the olive off of the seed. LOL

I love green olives on my pizza. I'm not real fond of black olives though. The red thing is pimento. I love green olives stuffed with garlic. They are really yummy.

I have no idea what to do with your green olives (Martini?)because I don't like them; green or black.
My husband likes black and so does my sister. They will eat them plain. My sister makes a pasta dish with them too. I just never could get used to the taste of olives.
I do know that the red part is the pimento. lol

I like black olives. I like them plain out of the can. I like them on pizza, in enchiladas, spanish rice. Stuff like that. I do not like green olives. I just can't passed the taste of them and that icky red thing is a pimento. Machines take out olive seeds or you can eat around it I guess. You can't eat an olive straight off a tree either since they will make you sick.

I like the black ones more than the green ones also...i would like an olive tree, but i don't think it would grow here very well!

I am very fond of olives from little green pimento stuffed ones to large green garlic stuffed ones - or those giant black marinated olives - and the greek olives. There are many varying flavors from sweet to bitter to quite bitter, but I enjoy them all.

I love olives! I prefer green over black olives though. I love the pimento inside too. I can eat green olives right out of the jar or in a salad. Black olives are better on pizza though and I don't think I've ever tried green olives on pizza, but I bet it would be good. Yum!

I think i like the green olives better. For some reason they just taste better than the black one. The green olives they are more tasty.
The black olives are not as good, and most of the black ones has a weird after taste or something.

I love olives. Green olives I add to my pasta salad, potato salad, even egg salad. Black olives are wonderful added to spaghetti and lasagna. But now that you have me thinking, how about some nice fried eggplant slices, with a little tomato sauce on top. Add some black olives and parmesan cheese. Great, now I'm hungry.

I don't really like olives. I don't like really salty foods so that is probably a major reason why. I do like to use olive oil, though. Good luck with finding recipes!
