I recently read a post on mylot about what everyone thought about the whale/dolphin "slaughter" in Japan. The issue was extremely publicized when Hayden Pantierre went to protest it a few months ago. I was pretty upset with what people had responded to the post
I'm sick of hearing people bash Japan for "slaughtering whales!"
Some of you mylotters may know from previous posts of mine that I personally love dolphins and marine mammals; they're some of my FAV animals, and yet I'm 1/2 japanese, and people bash me all the time about it. The japanese fisherman who do hunt marine mammals only do it one time during the year, and it's not even a big, or popular part of japanese diet/culture.
There's people ALL OVER THE WORLD doing the same thing to other animals and the environment, and people are only talking about the killing going on in Japan because It's the only one they Know about!!!
People should STOP talking about this, and DO something about it and find out about what's going on in rainforests, and corals reefs and what not!
Mass Killing ANY animal species, or the environment for that matter is W-R-O-N-G.

You know it's true. No animal deserves to be slaughtered. At the same time you did not deserve to be bashed. There are people out there who are very racists and vile, they don't really care much about the fact that they hurt other people or not. Personaly, I don't believe in bashing anyone. But these dolphins and whales and anything else that has wildlife that has to be saved, should be. It's true people talk but do nothing about it. It's very sad.

I am sorry to hear about it. I guess you are right, People in some part of Philippines are doing it too.. and no i am not saying its correct or that we need to be bashed for that matter... all i am saying is it does happen everywhere but we do not need to say things to each other that could hurt us all.
I am totally against animal killings and support protection of these animal - but i dont need to bash anyone just so to prove it.
I hope everything turns out well and hope you will be least upset.

Unfortunately, its the media's fault for people's view about this issue. The majority of society is not personally involved in this fight, therefore they only know what the news shows. Since the media has predominately shown Japan's involvement in this slaughter, people unknowingly narrow their sights to the group portrayed. This is wrong, and people should do their own research and find the facts. Moreso they should know that even though this is Japan, not everyone who is Japanese, or even part, participates in this.
The only way I can think of to alleviate this is to educate people fully about the issue. But you can't educate everybody, so just chalk up the response to mass ignorance.

Every year, Native Americans in Alaska are allowed to hunt one whale. Every year there is a protest about this. I do not condone or agree with animal cruelty. But the Native American whale hunt is a way of keeping that tribes culture alive. Not one part of the whale is wasted nor is it displayed as a trophy.
Cultures around the world are all different. What one person may see as animal cruelty another person may see and know as a way of life.
I have never thought ill of Japan or Japanese people for this whole whale thing at all. In fact, it is one place that I have always wanted to visit. Maybe someday I will get that chance. Take care!

I completely agree with you. People don't want to hear it, because they don't want to get involved. I hate people like that. I personally would love to take part in saving the whales, or the rainforests, or anything that I could do for the environment. People are just cold hearted.

Geeze. Just because you're half Japanese doesn't mean you support the killings nor does it mean you have anything to do with it so why in the world are people hating you for this? That's plain ignorance on these people. If I were you, I'd turn my back on these idiots and move on to better things. My blessings to you!
