Words...

I love words and what we can do with them. We can paint pictures, make people laugh, ask for forgiveness, attain a uni degree. There are endless opportunities with what we can do with words. The English language is complicated to say the least but we can also find humour in that. I'd like to share with you some clever words my bro in law shared with me from an email. HUMOUR FOR LOVERS OF WORDS: I wondered why the baseball was getting bigger. Then it hit me. Police were called to a day care where a 3-yr-old was resisting a rest. Did you hear about the guy whose whole left side was cut off. He's all right now. The roundest knight at King Arthur's round table was Sir Cumference. The butcher backed up into the meat grinder & got a little behind in his work. To write with a broken pencil is pointless. When fish are in schools, they sometimes take debate. The short fortune teller who escaped from prison was a small medium at large. A thief who stole a calendar got 12 months. A thief fell & broke his leg in wet cement. He became a hardened criminal. When the smog lifts in Los Angeles, U.C.L.A. The dead batteries were given out free of charge. A dentist & a manicurist fought tooth and nail. A bicycle can't stand alone; it is two tired. A will is a dead giveaway. Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana. A backward poet writes inverse. In a democracy it's your vote that counts; in feudalism, it's your Count that votes. A chicken crossing the road: poultry in motion. If you don't pay your exorcist you can get repossessed. Show me a piano falling down a mine shaft & I'll show you A-flat miner. The guy who fell onto an upholstery machine was fully recovered. A grenade fell onto a kitchen floor in France, resulted in Linoleum Blownapart. You are stuck with your debt if you can't budge it. A calendar's days are numbered. A lot of money is tainted: 'Taint yours, and 'taint mine. A boiled egg is hard to beat. He had a photographic memory which was never developed. Those who get too big for their britches will be exposed in the end. When you've seen one shopping center, you've seen a mall. When she saw her first strands of gray hair, she thought she'd dye. Bakers trade bread recipes on a knead to know basis. Santa's helpers are subordinate clauses. Acupuncture: a jab well done. If you don't undersatand any of these, please ask. Cheers

Croc, you are clever. Not as clever as me of course. Don't be getting big headed will you? I especially like the "time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana".

Don't you wish you could be this clever...? I sure do. My attempts at trying to be clever and funny seem to be quite obscure and need to be explained. I'll just have to keep practicing and try harder. I am told I can be very trying at times...Oh dear

It's too bad you become ill...perhaps doing something you enjoy so much alleviates the discomfort, at least for a short time. Have a good day today of good health and wellness.

I think they are very clever and have made a vow to write down my own gems as I think of them. It all started when my father fell into a lens grinding machine and made a spectacle of himself. Hope your days are happy. xx

These were great. This is the first discussion I have read this morning and I thank you for starting my day with a laugh. No wonder my foreign friends say that English is the most difficult language to learn!

Throw in the different pronounciations, spellings and accents and we may be seen to have made a perfect hash of it. Glad I could put a smile on ya dial kiddo. Brightest blessings.

Thankyou, you are too kind. I'm happy to have refreshed your vocabulary. I had hoped to stimulate some of the very clever people here to come up with some humour of their own but they must have passed. I'm glad that a few at least appreciated it.

I disagree my friend. I had hoped that the heading I used and my opening sentences would spur those who love to write into a surge of clever, funny writings of their own. I obviously missed my mark. Or else the idea of actually thinking about a clever or humourous response to these words was passed over for the sake of 3 easier to answer discussions. I was looking for quality and came up empty.

Thank you so much for sharing this sweety - I have been roaring with laughter at this and i am now in pain as I have also been watching The Frost Report is back on tv! I am ashamed to admit that it actually took me a few minutes to figure out the UCLA one - I thought it was part of the sentance and you had missed out the next bit! And we wonder why people have a problem learning the English Language!!! xxx
