I am really confuse if I will file a resignation letter today or not. I'm not happy with my work. The working hours is like hell for it's already more than 12 hrs a day six days a week. I don't have other job yet and quite afraid if I can get a new one before the effectivity of my resignation occur, which is after a month of filing it. I know that I should be glad for I have work...others out there are unemployed... but it feels like I don't belong here... this is not my world... I want to pursue my teaching career but now it's quite late to apply for a teaching job because the school term is already starting and by the time I finish all my obligation in this company it's already mid school term. How about you? Are you happy with your work? What could be a reason for you to decide to quit your job?

I don't have a job at the moment, because i'm recoverring from a operation. I'm a single mom so my reason to quit my old job would be that i have found exciting new job.

Hello jody20
Does it mean you had an operation due to caesarian delivery? I believe that being a mom and choosing it over high paying job is worthy enough. May God Bless you and your baby all the time. Take care.

I think any time you are not happy in a job, you have a right to file a resignation letter. I usually have something else lined up, but not always. I would start looking hard for something as soon as (or even before) you file it. I would never take a job that had that kind of hours!!! If they changed the hours to that after I started I would certainly file my resignation!!! I know in some countries that is normal, but it should not be permitted!!! It is not healthy and if you are miserable all the time. Where do you live? Can you do substitute teaching or is that an option where you are? Are there temporary agencies you can work for? Check out job board on the internet if they are available. Good luck!!!

Hello daeckardt
I felt relief, I filed my resignation yesterday. I gave them one month to look for my replacement. As of now I'm applying job on the internet and I'm contacting all of my friends... I'm just lucky to have friends whose very supportive.
You are right, working for that long is not healthy. I am living in Shenzhen China, the company provides a good accomodation for me, the house is nice but only to go home flat tired and cannot accept other part time teaching for really dont have time.
Thanks for responding. Have a nice day ^_^

I wish that companies in China would look at the human side of human resources. I have learned so many things about that which would make it a lot better for people. I know that for me, there are some things that are important that don't matter to other people. But there are some things that matter to other people that don't matter to me too. I wasn't suggesting working part time now, but once your job is over, if you haven't found something, would you be able to do substitute teaching? Good luck!!!

If you are unhappy with the hours, but like the job, perhaps you can ask them for a change in your hours because of school. I have never written a resignation, so I really can't help you with that.
I wish you luck in getting a job that will work with you and your schooling. If you are going to resign, I hope you find another job ASAP. Some employers when they receive resignation papers, go ahead and make it starting the same week, so good luck to you

Hello icyorchid
It's not possible for them to grant my request to change the working hours. Most of the employers though not all...think that their paying you so you should work hard for it and i really mean hard they want it their way. So sorry if you misunderstood me, I'm not schooling already. I already resign yesterday. It feels great. THanks for sharing.

You are welcome! Acturelly i just graduate from the college, and i don't have a formal job. Therefore i don't have much experience about your problem! But i think our life is so shorted-life, as if a shooting star lighting the sky. So not doing the slave of the work, but we should enjoy our life as much as we like in our limited life!

i am not working now but the only reason that will make me resign if i am not happy with my work or if i feel it is taking too much of my time and i prefer to live my life with fun and not just work.
but then i have worked to a place that i hate so much and really it is like me crying each day coz i dont want to work anymore but i dont have other choice than that.
so each day i think of great stuff that makes me happy and not just work and just take one day at a time, sure it helps me till i find a new job and leave the company.
right now, there are so many people out there who is looking for a job and will do everything just to have it. they dont care if they will be happy or not if they pay a lot or not what matters is they have a job that will help them somehow financially.
i have read before that if you dont like what you see, you either change it or paint it something different.
sorry i dont know what to say but if i were you, i will stay in the job and still look for another opportunity. i make sure that when i apply for a certain position i will write in my resume that i am currently working so i need a month or so before i can start.
most company will allow you to do this coz more and more people now are looking for a better career and there is nothing wrong about it. as long as you are honest about it and not lying about anything.
your other option will be, if you have extra money and you think that you will survive before the class start and you know 100% that you will get the job then you can resign now and wait till you get the teaching position/
either way, make sure that whatever you decide you have think it many times and weigh out the pros and cons of it.
anyway, i wish you the best and hope that you find a career that will make you happy

Well it's pretty obvious, if we are not enjoying anymore and that we are not happy with our work then it's a good choice to consider resigning. If the environment I'm working at is already not that enjoyable as it used to be, that I don't get paid for what I know am working for and that I don't get an increase in salary.
Maybe try to stick with it until you find something else for you to replace your original job preference, I know that some schools still welcome new teachers and hire them. Also, try those other schools which promotes specific educational system.

Well to be honest, I would probably do the same if I knew I had something out there to follow behind this one. Last week at work, we were told that we couldn't leave work at our regular stop time of 5:30pm until ALL work in our station is finished; OK, if you have nothing else, but for me, I have another job to go to and so far folks there have been understanding because they know the deal due to them working at the first job with me, but I don't think it is right and considering letting the second job go. My first job had considered putting on a second shift to handle any work left undone by the first. The idea was nixed. Then the possibility of having a four day ten hour shift was brought up and most folk including myself said that would be a better idea because the work we have just cannot fit into a eight hour day and at present we're working forty five hours upward a week anyhow. But they nixed that and put a memo out stating that NO ONE leaves until all work to the client is done and it's causing problems for those who don't have their own cars, those who have kids in day care as well as those like myself who have second jobs. so with all of that said, that's a reason enough for me to resign.

If your other responsibility suffers because of your job then I believe its a good reason to quit job. But still weigh all things first. I know it's easy to say but it's difficult and complicated. For me I already chose to quit my job. I will just look for a better one. Thanks for responding . Have a wonderful day ^_^

Some companies do work for 12 hours or more. But personally i think that is hectic. IF you are not satisfied with the type of job and working hours, then definitely you should resign. But before that you should have another job at hand. So just wait for the right time and then only resign. I know this time is very pathetic, but it will also pass.
I work for a MNG with fixed 8 Hours work. and 5 days a week. SO thats not a problem for me.

I was working in a 5 star company I also have long hours to work even holiday's, sometimes I don't have time for myself to have fun. So I carefully plan it I save some money foe the times I will not working and applying for a new one. Fortunately I easily got new one Happy at first again but finding out longer that it not what I want. So I quit again until I decide to put my own business happy and contented with it. At least I'm the boss of my own business.

Dear Jhoana,
That is too much dear, working for 12 to 13 hours a day for 6 days a week is a strain. If you can get a better job leave this, but without a new one in hand and you resign this you'll be in difficulties isn't it? Even if you had problems and you don't like your job, don't you think it would be worthwhile for you to wait till you get a better one and then resign. The reasons you have given are enough for resigning any given job. My daughter is also in a insurance company and is working similar hours to you. She also left it for sometime but then she couldn't get a better job. They called her back and now she seems happy. They promoted her and asked her to work in a place closer to her home. I hope something will happen to you also if you try. All the best

hi jhoana!
i've thought many times of quitting my job. those are times that i think what i do is useless, that i could not use whatever i learned in school, that my work is insignificant, and to top it all, my salary is small and i am not permanent. but then, its hard to find a job these days and i'm also not that confident that i can easily find a replacement job. and besides, my work is not that bad. its easy, i can use my writing skills, i can do field works once in a while, and i get to claim travel allowance. but i don't close my door for a better opportunity and i'm also considering working abroad.
there's no such thing as being too late in pursuing your teaching career jhoana. my friend is a teacher and before that, she used to work in a department store. while she was working there she didn't stop looking for a teaching job, applying anywhere, no matter what month was it. she's now teaching in a public school and she's teaching the subject she likes.
if you're afraid of not getting a new job after resigning, then i guess you start to look for another job while you're still working. like what i'm doing now. so by the time you have resigned, there's a new work waiting for you. its not as easy as how i say it but its good to be optimistic.
good luck! i hope you can make up your mind soon.

If I were you I would send my resignation at once. You think it's hell when you work. It's harmful for both you and your company. Many people don't like their present job,but they do their responsibility and try to improve themselves then to wait for another good chance. But if you feel upset so strong there is no meaning for you to stay in the company . You can't get even a little bit happiness now.So I suggest you try to get another job you interest and work hard to achieve something that make you happy. If you can't find a job you really like, you should try to change yourself.U can try to do something easy first. If you work hard and do everything you ordered to do.you will find something interest in you work. If you still can't,Resign again.
for me I just want to file my resignation a few days later.because i find a new job with higher pay, and most of my best friend work in that city.
May you scuccess finding a new job you like.
