After it all goes down

I often think about different scenarios that would take place during and after collapse of the country, civilization, society or whatever. As does everyone on here most likely as well. Anyway, what do you think is going to happen when things get so bad that the people that work and maintain power plants, factories, chemical lpants and other potentially dangerous unless maintained sites stop showing up for work? If things get SO severe, people are going to be at home protecting the family or getting out of the area, not really worrying and a paycheck. This mainly applies to industrious city areas but applies to other suburbs also. These sites would need to be maintained, if not then there will be some serious issues with some hazardous areas. So what are peoples thoughts on this? Do you think you live in a safe environment and clear of any chemical or other similiar threats?
