Okay, Im sure you all have had your days where typos happen. Lord knows I have had my fair share of my fingers moving faster than my mind. However, I am coming upon more and more posts where the spelling and wording is horrible. It reminds me of Spam! And it makes me wonder if people are just posting bogus discussions for the sake of money. Seriously I looked at 12 discussions like 5 minutes ago and chose not to respond to them because the spelling and wording was all messed up. I really wish they would put a spell check on here. Ever since there was a false poster bust I have been wary about which discussions I respond to. There are people from all over the world here I understand, but come on...Maybe Im just anal about my English, but I know this has to bother some other people too!

Please don't take this the wrong way but, I think this post is against the rules. They ask that you refrain from calling people out on their bad grammar and bad spelling as we do have a lot of posters from around the world. That being said, I do try to keep up with my use of proper grammar in my discussions and posts. I may not always be perfect. A typo here, a blatant misspelling there. But, I do try! I hope that none of my discussions were on the list of those you chose to ignore based on my grammar or misspelled words. I have a lot to say and can be mildly amusing sometimes! I would hate to think that any of my discussions have been ignored due to poor use of the English language or a few typos here and there! LOL!

Number one I didnt call anyone out on their spelling or their grammar. I was saying that bad spelling drives ME batty..If its against the rules they will delete it, but I never say anything particular about anyone in particular. Just a point and opinion. Its not that I chose to ignore the posts..I did read them, but when it is hard for to understand them then I wont answer them. I am the first to admit that I have typos..lol..Im not perfect and a lot of the time my fingers work faster than my brain does..As a matter of fact I just spell checked this and had to fix a few things. I DO read them..thats not the point...but its frustrating to have to spend 15 minutes trying to decipher what people are trying to post about.

You didnt offend me..LOL..Too much gets lost in translation when your typing. I just want you to know I wasnt trying to call any certain person out and its just a pet peeve of mine. And its not for lack of reading the posts. I read them, but if they are a mess of words and I dont know what they are asking I wont post responses ya know :)

I swear I wasn't trying to offend you! I really wasn't! Also, sorry for the double post! Sometimes my computer doesn't seem like it added the response and I try to do it again and, bang..there are two! LOL! Anyway, I really am sorry if I offended you! That wasn't my intention!

I am not a native speaker but I guess my English is OK. The problem with spell check is, it does correct some spelling but some demon words are left as it is such as to-too, hear-here-her-hair-hare, there- their, your-you;re, etc... Grammar is also not checked, even my MS Word. There are some native speakers too who are worse than like us who are second languge speakers so I don't thnk being an SL is an issue. Some are just lucky enough to have learned English well.

I think your English (well what you typed) is wonderful. I know that a spell checker wont fix everything, but I do believe that it would help a majority of the time at least with a few words. There will always be typos and improper grammar. LOL..Im not looking for everyone to spell perfectly..I just want to be able to understand what some people are posting about and not have to guess.

Oh well, if you cannot understand the English of some mylotters, better not respond to it. There are foreign speakers who knows what they want to say but could not properly find the word and the proper arrangement of those words in the sentence to make it clearer so some just follow how they construct sentences in their native language. In my case, Pilipino is constructed normally with the verb or predicate first but since I had English subject every year in the whole duration of my studies, I can say that I am more fluent compared to some native speakers (modesty aside). One problem here in mylot is that we generally use English in the discussions but it doesn't require fluency of the language in order to participate.

I try to do it the right way but most of the time I have my son on my lap so I may not spell correctly, use proper english, and half of the time I don't capitalize. I try but with a baby on the lap he makes it hard to one handed type.

I have noticed this but put most of it down to people who are using English as a second language and given them the benefit of the doubt and too we have people of all ages from all places so some may not have the benefit of as much schooling as we do. thus I sort of lean back and do not let it bother me too much as I have often seen after it is too late that I have myself sent out a response with typos that altered the meaning if taken literally. It would be nice to have a spelling checker on here I agree.

Spell checkers are for certain one of the best inventions in modern technology :) I know there are people from all over and of all ages..its just hard to decipher what a person is talking about that is aggravating to me. We are all guilty of typos..human genetics what can I say? LOL

I can't say i share your opinion on the the whole miss spelling thing. I really dont worry about how i spell things or weather or not i capitalize the right letters. it's not like mylot is a term paper for class. this is just a place to relax and chill and not have to worry about weather i mispelled a word. and besides even if they did but a spell checker on here i highly doubt that any one would use it.

See I would be one of those people who would use the spell checker religiously. And everyone is different. This is a laid back site, but in my opinion this is a place for dicussion and I believe you should present yourself as you would want anyone to see you in real life. So Im one of those people that takes the spelling seriously and want people to understand what I'm trying to say. Not that I haven't been guilty of my fair share of typos. However there is enough emotion and feeling lost in translation as it is.

I've noticed it a lot, but I've learned to live with it. It's not usually so bad that you can't understand the gist of it, and there are so many people in here with English as their second language, that I don't really take that much notice of it any more. It must be difficult for those people. Imagine if you had to write in a language other than English... it wouldn't be easy. I can speak German but sometimes I get muddled on the grammar and spelling. Brightest Blessings.

I don't like it in my own posts but it never bothers me when I see it in other people's posts because I believe it is more important to be understood than to be correct. As long as we are communicating in a way we can understand each other, then what does it matter if hasty typing or lack of spellcheck allows a few poor spellings to appear.
