Have you ever sold anything this way? Before the Christmas we did a furniture exchangre with my BIL & MIL. We got my MILs sofa, love seat and some bedroom furniture. In turn she took our large leather chair and my BIL took our leather sofa. The love seat is in our bedrooom and we are tired of looking at it and we are probably going to need a new sofa (it was in almost new condition when we got it but it just isn't hold up to our amount of use). So we are thinking about selling the love seat on ebay, but for local pick up only. Have you ever had an auction like this be successful?

yes, but we actually ended up meeting the buyers and seller in these instances..
once we sold a large item and met the buyer about half way 2 hrs distance each way for us.
another time the buyer was anxious to receive the item for a weekend gathering and asked if we would meet them as they were driving through a certain community 50 miles from our home - we agreed - but they did not reimburse us gas money and that perturbed me.
the third and forth times were vehicle purchases on our part - one person we met at their home and the other we met half way and paid for his gas on bringing the vehicle to that point and his return trip.

Yes I have sold a few things this way, I never had any problems, I always have the item ready and all transactions is done on the front porch, I have never let them inside as one never knows.

I have never brought anything on ebay but here in New Zealand we have a similar site called 'Trade Me' of which I have been a member of for about 4yrs and have brought and sold many items and really enjoy it.
I noticed the other day that somebody was selling his 'life' on ebay after his marriage broke up, lock stock and barrel, so give the love seat a go and hope all goes ok, lifes about learning, even if it goes wrong at least you gave it a go.

I've had auctions where I didn't specify local pick up but got inauiries from buyers who wanted to know if they could pick up.
I was always agreeable, however I made the pick up location away from my home. Understandably a love seat is a very large item to transport.
My advice to you is to be carefull, have someone with you at the pickup appointment and if possible as someone already try to have the sofa outside your home.
