Having a career that you enjoy is one of the best things that can happen to you. While choosing a career we think of several things like interest, money, satisfaction etc. So it is a crucial decision in your life. Did you choose your career or did someone else choose it for you? Were you pressurised to choose a particular career? I would like to hear from you.

When I was choosing a course in entering college, I had no idea on what I wanted to be. Then my dad suggested something in food and he wanted us eventually to have a business in food. So, I was enrolled in it and eventually loved the course and until now, I loved my career.

I am a Registered Nurse. I chose my own career path. I was not pressured or led in any particular direction. It is a crucial decision in your life. I am happy with the choice I made most of the time. However, it is stressful and hard physically as well.

yes. i chose my career. i was so eager to have a job when i graduated i did not even wait for what i really wanted to do.. like go into systems analysis and design. i ended up in a call center job and was a customer support for 1 and a half years... i was then promoted to MIS specialist - somewhat related to my field of study already because i have programming too and now i am a supervisor for the same position.

When i was in my school, i chose to be a Hardware Engineer because my brother was in the same line. I never had any such aim which would have guided me to my profession but i wanted to be an engineer. But later when i grew up i did my graduation as an Engineer in the field of Electronics and Communication. However i am working today as a Software Engineer in an IT company. so there has been lots of ups and downs in my career life. But one thing for sure is that i m An Engineer....lol
Well you can call it my choice. No one forced me into this. I had a liking towards my stream and more over i had inspirations from my brother who is in the same line as i m..

No yaar. Infact today if you look at the statistics, many of the people, like me, who may have done their engineering in some other field, come into the software line. It all depends on your learning and your programming logic. We were taught some programming basics in our field too but we had a thorough training in the company before joining the production field. So there is not much difficulty in adjusting. If you are ready to learn and have good hands of practice on a computer, you can easily adjust well to this field.
All the best

I was never pressured by anyone in my life to choose a particular career. I chose my own career and as a result am working my dream job. I didn't get into my career until I was in my 30's, when I joined a Volunteer Fire Department, went through the wildland firefighter training, and immediately knew that I loved what I was doing. I now work for the forestry service as a seasonal firefighter, which means I work from mid-March to mid-November, then we are on leave the other 3 months. I can be long days and long hours, but I love what I am doing. It not only involves firefighting, but learning, maintenance, and sometimes office work. I also do Smokey Bear prevention programs.

Well, here i am with the noble profession as my career. "all professionals can boost but the teacher taught them all" i was determined to be an economic consultant but due to some influence by one of my dad's uncles. he convinced my dad not to let me pursue the degree immediately after high school and he did as he was told. so i went to the Teacher's college first and after the third year i entered the univesity and completed. i'm a teacher now but wish to comtinue with my dream career in my nesxt Master degree.
though i'm happy with what i am now, i'll still pursue dream profession.
good lcuk to all and me who have similar dreams.

no! my parents encouraged me to study accounting. i never thought of being one. what i really want was to become a journalist. i don't feel sorry though because i know i could still be a journalist even if i have accounting as my career now. i believe that we can be what we want to be if we chose to.

I was forced into my first career by my mother who wanted me to start work and earn money as soon as I left school. She was not prepared to support me in further education and she needed some extra income to help with household expenses. So I did as she wanted and trained in secretarial skills, shorthand, typing and bookkeeping and started working in an office. I did not mind working hard, my work was praised and appreciated by my employers, but I never felt happy in my work.
Years later when my mother was no longer alive I made a change and followed a different career which was of my own choosing.

When I graduated from the university 8 years ago, I got my first job as quality technician, and now I act as a quality enigneer for one enterprise.during this period,i often thought how much I love this job and how long I want to go on this way,the deeper I thought this problem, the worse I fell with my current occupation. But it is very hard to me to change the occupation because I have no experience on other occupation field except for quality. So I often comfort my self with one word that is if you can do things good which you don't like, you can do the things better which you like.:D

Partly yes! and no.. my work now is totally different to my course when I was in college, I choose this career because of lack of opportunity, I'ved always wanted to work which is related to my course but I can't because of lack of knowledge, I am not good in school i did not took my studies seriously during that time. which i regret now, but i can say that i have a nice work to consider but i dont stop to strive more.. i want a job that gives me satisfaction financially emotionally and psychologically.. a work that I can enjoy at the same time..

Well I chose my own career but later found it was not the best choice for me. I chose to become a teacher but now I realise that my reasons for going into this field do not stand up to the reality of what is best for me.
Yes I do well at the job and I am easy to talk to etc......but I hate the classroom. I tried sticking to it for nearly five years because even I failed to see how with my qualities I was hating it so much. Well as we speak I am looking at starting my studies to channge my profession.
As a child I had always chosen the fields of nursing and teaching as my likely career path butnursing was struck off the list from early when I realised I really could not deal with blood and wounds. I guess its all a part of the growing process. Some of us hit the jackpot from the word go but others like myself learn from a process of elimination and trial and erro.

I chose a career as a physician. (family practitioner). Although the choice was mine, I can't say I didn't have some gentle prodding from my family when I was young. Since that time I've discovered I enjoy writing and now do that on a part time basis which was entirely my own decision. From talking to other physicians, it seems many of them had at least some degree of subtle pressure from their family to become a doctor.
