Buying used cars on Ebay

I just found out that my friend's dad bought his car on Ebay! It was really cool! He only bought it for 10k and it really looks amazing and he said that he didnt have anything to repair on it and didnt encountered any problems. Im now wondering if i would buy my first car on Ebay. We'll im not really into appearances and I just want a car that will bring me to where I want to go. Do you guys think its really safe or much better to buy it on Ebay? Anyone here have any experiences? Thanks!

Well, eBay can be a gamble. Sometimes you really win, sometimes you don't. I haven't bought a car from eBay, but I've gotten some really good stuff there at good prices. But I've also got some average stuff at high prices. If you can physically check out the car before you buy it, then you should definitely do it. See if you can take it to a mechanic, which might be hard if it's on auction.
I don't really like purchasing cars from a private seller because you just don't know what you're going to get. I bought my last car from a dealer and they put lots of new stuff on it like tires, rear brakes, flushed the coolant, changed the oil, and smogged it. So, I know I'm getting a safe car. But, that's my choice.
