I am interested in hearing more about the Medifast plan? How much money did this cost, do they have meals or is it a shake?
I use a diet patch that really does not work, have even tried the mist in the mouth from Avon, then there was the grapefruit pills and I got a free sample recently from I believe the walmart site and started taking them but keep forgetting to do it regularly.
My problem is that I keep taking prednisone to rid my face of the eczema rashes and that leaves me with a 3-6 lb weight gain each time. I gained back the fifteen pounds I lost working at the gym. I still workout but the sweat makes my face break out so it is a process that does not stop. Plus I love chocolate.
I was thinking of trying Nutrisystem, see it on QVC or HSN all the time and might do that for myself over the holidays since kids are home for three weeks and that means no 24 hour fitness.
Good topic for a discussion. I look forward to reading about Medifast.

Medifast does have meals, which is what made it appealing to me. They have a fairly wide variety of stuff.
The way it works is you eat 5 of their meals a day, then you get to prepare 1 meal for yourself each day (called a lean and green meal). The 5 meals have to be medifast and you can choose from any of their things: chili, soups, shakes, puddings, oatmeal, bars, chai latte, hot chocolate, etc. Then the one lean and green meal must be:
Lean Meat: 7 ounces of chicken, turkey or fish, or 5 ounces of lean beef, pork or lamb. Grill, bake or poach meats using non-stick spray. Salt, pepper, herbs and spices may be added if desired. You may also use 1 – 2 teaspoons of condiments such as ketchup, mustard or barbecue sauce.
Salad or Vegetables: Either 2 cups of salad greens (any kind) and up to ½ cup raw vegetables, or up to 1 ½ cups cooked vegetables. You may also use 1 – 2 tablespoons of low carb salad dressing.
So you eat 6 total meals a day and you don't get hungry because you're eating every 2 - 3 hours.
You can read more about the 5+1 plan here:
http://www.medifast1.com/weightloss/5and1.asp
As far as cost, you can get a month's supply for $275 and it has free shipping.
I lost 14 pounds in 3 weeks and then found out I was pregnant, so it's on hold for me until after I have the baby. But you can be sure I'm going to go back on it as soon as I can once I have the baby.
If you have any other questions, let me know.

I dont believe in diets. I think as long as you are physically active then you can become physically fit.

Hello. Just cause you stay active doesnt always mean you will lose the weight. The only diet that works is eat smaller portions. Also stay active.

Hi,
I am not a big fan of diets, because I feel limiting ourselves dooms us to failure. I have tried so many diets in the past and could never stick to any one of them, except for a low sodium diet I am restricted to for health reasons (but that is not a choice!).
Nothing seemed to work for me. I tried low fat (gained on that one), low carb (lost weight but couldn't stay on it). Then I started really paying attention to portion control, and eating small amount frequently. That works for me. After about two weeks, the weight started falling off.
I do not deny myself anything I want (within reason of course), but I never eat more than a half cup of anything at a time, and I eat every half hour or so. If you look at the serving sizes on most food, you will see that one serving is usually a half cup. And when the nutrition pyramid says X number of servings of fruit a day, they don't mean a whole apple or a whole orange, they mean approx a half cup (about a half an apple or orange, etc).
I had no idea how much we over eat until I read what a serving size really is.
Sometimes it is hard to eat every half hour, so when I am working I take things along with me like carrot sticks, fruit, a sandwich (quartered, and I only eat a quarter of it at a time).
It is a lifestyle change and takes time to adjust to, but it is the only thing I have found that works for me long term.
I also exercise daily.
Good luck on your weight loss, and I hope you get a lot of good suggestions!

Thanks Browneyez - You're right, different things work for different people. The key is finding what works for you and sticking with it. Deprivation has never worked for me either - it just makes me crave something all the more. I am planning to go back on Medifast after I have the baby, because it was so easy for me and worked for me.

I ended up making my own diet.
My parents did the cabbage soup diet (which I could not stand!) and lost a LOT of weight but yo-yoed about half of it back.
Then they tried the South Beach Diet and couldn't stick to it because it was the smae thing over and over. When I was visiting them though, I kind of liked what I ate, so I borrowed their recipe books and a couple other recipe books similar and studied the low-carb stuff.
I felt a lot better after my body shifted metabolism into low-carb mode, but up until then I was dragging.

That is great, helpful. I tried the South Beath Diet too and for several years I ended up following a modified version of it also. I did feel better if I stayed away from sugars and starches. I think I probably have a sugar addiction. :)

I did pretty well on the Atkins Diet, I lost 10 pounds the first week about 20 all together in a month, but it's a hard diet to stick too.

I agree. I tried Atkins once and stayed on it for about a month. I lost weight the first 2 weeks and the spent the last 2 weeks of it with a headache. I think Atkins is easier for men than it is women, at least that has been the experience of people I know who have tried it.

I really wouldn't consider it a diet, but.....I've trained my body to eat healthier. On 01/01/06 I weighed myself @ 253lbs. Although, I didn't look it...it was still there! At first I started incorporating water since I didn't drink enough of it (except during my "cycle" because women retain a lot more water during that time). Then I eliminated 2 things that I felt I couldn't live without that was very unhealthy (sweets & potato chips)every other week. During my second month I would exercise 3-4 times a week for about 45min-1hour. It was very low impact (walking, stretching, etc.) Since the time that I started doing this I have now eliminated most junk food, fast food, & sodas. I eat a lot of fish & chicken and load up on the veggies. I snack on fruit & yogurt. I try to get creative with it to keep me interested in losing weight. I am now down to an amazing 192 lbs. I jog 2 miles a day, four times weekly. I try to make healthy habits that I can use on a day-to-day basis that I won't flucuate from. No more yo-yo diets for me. When I lose my last 25 lbs I just know that I will be completely satisfied that I have 2 amazingly small children & don't look like I had any. Good luck with your diets & hopefully I have inspired someone to try mine!
