Move to Windows Vista? Or stay with the tried and true?

This question has been subject to a great deal of debate - should Windows users make the immediate move to Vista, or stay with Windows XP?
I think that although the decision is highly based on the individual user's motives, capabilities, and preferences, there have been several very strong points made against Vista. I feel that it is simply "too new" (as XP was when it first came out), and until many of it's kinks have been worked out, and the average user's computer hardware has improved, Vista will not be the wise choice for the average home user.
I will admit however, that I have very little personal experience with Vista, and so am opening this discussion up to anyone with insight into the topic.
Points to consider:
-Compatibility issues
-Resource requirements & management
-Features & security
-Price
From what I've seen, these points can be argued for both sides, so this should be interesting. :D

First welcome to mylot. I hope you enjoy your time here. Onto the the topic, I don't know much about Vista, but I've asked several people about Vista and have gotten different responses. I've heard from one friend that he's never had a problem with it (although he has a very up to date computer), whil my best friend's mom had problems with it which caused her to lose hours of work. I've also read negative comments on forums and such. I know I can't afford it right now, and I don't know many people who use it. Most are still using XP, which is just fine for me. I agree with you that it's too new still. Give it some time to work out the bugs and such.

First hi folks new here. I am an Microsoft Trainer and manager a large network. I like Vista but, I do not use it in my networks or suggest that someone upgrade to it. If it is loaded on a new machine great but like you said, older machine to much of a hassle to find drivers. Plus most software, you have to run in compatblity mode to get it to work and which version do you want just wait it will get better.

Yeah I agree. And seeing that my computer isn't the best, I'm fine using XP right now. And welcome to mylot. It's a great site. I hope you enjoy your time here.

Vista is really good operating system as all security loophole's they found in xp is fixed, they changed almost all of the Windows Enviromental variables.
but only drawback with vista as far i have notice is it needs lots of resources, so if you have normal pentium 4 or AMD with 512 MB or less amout of ram its better you stick to Xp, vista is actually designed for core 2 duo processors, funny thing is xp runs slower in core 2 duo when compared to vista as xp is not actually designed for it.
so if you are upgrading to vista make sure you have 1 Gb of Ram(works even with 512 MB) and processor should be atleast of HT(hyper threaded) technology processor (3 GHZ).
Thank you

I dont like vista because it requires me to upgrade everything :-
HDD
RAM
Processor
MoBo
all these are high in cost.. including the VISTA OS itself...
The compatibility are improving from day to day so no argue on that~..
The management are little whacky...hahaha..
I prefer Windows XP rather than others~
