I have had to ask my sister for cat food a few times. What is it that I can give to him from my kitchen. My dog scrappy and my cat cuddles eat each others food. I am now short on cash till pay day. I don't want t take all my sisters cat food. She buys the huge bag for two months. What does your cat eat canned or dry and why?

My catS eat dry food on the whole. The 2 oldest and the youngest are sharing a cat of food twice a day - tho we really need to cut off the youngster - he's totally spoiled! I would do what your sister does and get a large bag that will last the month or 2 months - and keep the dog for eating it all - because they prefer cat food, it tastes better I guess. In the mean time, some cats will eat scrambled eggs (be sure and NOT put onion, garlic or any other seasoning in it.) Bits of cheese or even some broth over unsweetened cereal might tide you over till you get some money.

Wow! that sounds very interesting (the broth over cereal)and I will try it. I notice that my cat likes to eat my dog Scrappy's food and Cuddles likes to eat Scrappy's food. I guess it's a change of pace from the norm. Thanx for the info. Have a good day.

My cats eat dry food and tuna fish. That is about it. They go crazy over tuna fish, every time I open up a can to make a tuna fish sandwich there they are by my feet. All I hear is meow, meow, meow. So I always give them the juice and just a little bit of tuna fish. We almost always have tuna fish so if we ever run out that is what we give them.

I have a black cat, she eats dry & Tuna also... I got one of those 2-3 liter canisters U turn upside down & she knoshes on dry whenever she wants. She goes nuts over tuna... She knows the sound of me opening a can. I'll squeeze the juice into a bowl & let her lick the cans & lids clean... After that, she happy... AC

My cat eats both wet and dry food. She is allowed two cans of wet a day and then she has to nibble on the dry if she is hungry or doesn't like the flavor of wet offered. I also bought some bargain chicken and boiled it for her. She loved it.

In a pinch a cat can eat a little chicken, turkey or maybe beef (if the cat will eat it) but I wouldn't make it a habit of feeding him not cat food.

Your best bet to keep kitty fed for the rest of the week is an inexpensive dry food and a couple of cans of cheap store-brand food. I don't recommend these cheap foods for long, but they will get you through on only $3 or $4. Don't give people food - it's usually acidic, too salty, or has onions...all bad for kitties. If you must share your food, buy one chicken, boil it, you mke chicken soup and salads for yourself, and give kitty the rest - nice, bland, boiled chicken. Grind it, or cut it up really small. NO SALT on that...!!! If you want to stretch it, add an equal portion of rice. And in an extreme emergency: oatmeal. I've seen kittens who were lactose-intolerant drink oatmeal milk and oatmeal gruel readily. Do not add sugar. Do not add salt. It's strange, I know - but many kitties have been saved using oatmeal formula. (And you can eat it too - it's cheap, and filling!!!) Oh, and no corn, no wheat, no other types of cereals. Oatmeal is especially good because it breaks down slowly and will not turn into sugar in their little kitty bodies. Oatmeal bread is often recommended for high blood sugar people because it is low, low, low sugar. That makes it quite safe for kitties. I'm cutting out the tuna-water (my kitties love it) but it's bad for them. Too much magnesuim and mercury!! Sometimes tuna also contain salt - be very careful with this stuff - they may love it, but it's poisonous in large amounts. Plus it makes kitty's poo SO STINKY!!!! I hope I have been of help. I know what it's like to be low on cash - I'm low right now! Really low! (And yet my cats get fed better than I do.) Heh. :)

my cat is adopted, so i feed him what he is used to from his previous home, and that is Fancy Feast moist canned food and Trader Joe's Holistic Dry food. he eats on can in the morning and snacks on dry food in the evening. my late cat was similar. she at both the canned moist food and dry food. Eukenuba, iams cats, science diets, etc. canned food in the morning, and snacking on dry food in the evening. my cats didnt like human food scraps. they would play with it like hockey pucks. when they were small, they drank milk. all my late shihtzus like scraps--usually popcorn, cheese, bread, meat scraps from restaurants that people at my table didnt finish and sometimes turkey scraps from thanksgiving, they like those chinese cookies with the walnut in the middle, etc.

If you keep running out of food you would be best doing what your sister does and stock up on cat food when you have money. That's what I do now because I was always running out! As for what else the cat can eat, well I suppose stuff like tins of tuna or sardines .. any tinned fish really. Or cheap cuts of meat, stuff like chicken etc. But generally it's best to avoid feeding cats "human" food if possible. If it's just now and then it should be ok though. My cat eats both tinned and dry cat food although he's fussy and goes through phases where he won't eat the dry stuff.

My cat likes dry food, she's not a fan of the wet cat foods. And she is very picky about what she eats. She likes the Good Life cat food though. And I have to put her on a diet cause she's eating like a piggy lately.

In the past when I have run out of cat food, I have given them a tin of tuna. They love it and it's something cheap that I always have in my cupboard. You shouldn't give your cat cow's milk. If you do, make sure it's watered down. Cats will also eat chicken and fish but I think you should make sure you have enough food to feed your cats. Buy it when it's on special and perhaps you can buy a bulk bag of food? Is your cat desexed? Is it vaccinated?

Hi, my name is ceciliah and I took a course at Granton University for Small Animal Health and Care. I also did some work at a vets so maybe I can help a bit. Cats are a true meat eater, but can adapt to other foods when times are tough. If you have extra dog food maybe your dog wouldn't mind sharing a bit until payday. Some vegetables mashed or finely chopped added to this might not be what your cat considers fine dining but give it a try. She also might like (if you have enough) some of your meat from your meals, make a sort of gravy from the meat drippings and mix with potatoes or rice. I always find that tuna juice gets me by when my paycheque doesn't stretch far enough. Another place that migh help is the closest S.P.C.A. They help out whenever they can to give a hand. If you find you might need them quite often you can volunteer, alittle bit each week, and they are always gratefull for that. Phone any other pet society you might have and give them a try too. Well Good Luck! I hope this was useful for you Sincerely, ceciliah

My 10 cats eat dry. I buy some stuff called Blue Bag. It comes in 40 pound blue sacks. Why 40 pound sacks? Because I have 10 meow mouths to feed and food is expensive. My cats will eat just about anything. They love fruits and vegetables, cooked grains and legumes. And of course anything with meat, either human food or pet food. I bought them some canned food as a treat for my birthday. They will be in heaven almost all month sharing 1 or 2 cans a day.

My kitty will only eat dry food. And it has to be fresh. . . if I put food in her dish in the morning and she only nibbles, she won't eat it later in the day.. . .I feed her 3 times a day, but only a wee bit each time. . . She really is fussy. And although most think that cats like fish, she won't touch her food if there is anything with a fish flavor in it. She will actually take those little bits out and then eat her food. So, I try to find cat food that doesn't contain fish flavors. She always manages to beg, as if she were a dog, while we eat. But she won't touch anything from the table. I guess that's a good thing, in the end. But she really is interested in what we eat!

My cat gets dry cat food because it is easier to feed her also she doesn't eat it all at once. The dry doesn't smell and draw flies or other insects like canned does. I also don't feed her any people food because if she get started she will start getting up on the kitchen cupboards or dinning table look for something to eat. If you have some oatmeal add some water and let her have that.

I have been told by my veterinarian, that the canned food is better for cats than the dry food. I had already started most of my cats on dry food and some of them will not eat the canned food. One cat looks at it like it is poison. He is too funny. I sometimes give the ones that are old and have thyroid problems some chicken that I cook or tuna out of the cans. I also think it is very bad to give cats or dogs any ham or pork in general. So some of mine eat canned and some still eat the dry food. You can get big bags of cat dry food at animal feed stores for a lot less than the grocery stores.

I give my cats a mix of cat food and human food. I think our cats tend to lose their appetite if they eat the same food over and over, so that's what I do.
