Do you carry something in your bag that can be used as self defense?

I admit that sometimes I feel scared if I have to go alone especially at night, even if I use taxi. I took lot of anticipation in case something bad happenned like; only walk in a crowd, never use a shortcut because usually shortcut is dark and no people around. I keep my cellphone in my hand or in a place that is easy to reach like my pocket. And I keep my perfume in my bag, I can use it to spray to the criminal's eye.
My friend even carry a scissor in her bag, and most of my friend also carry something in her bag for a self defense, eventhought -Thank God- until now we never have to use it.
Do you do that too? What is that you use for your self defense?

Well, I don't carry something or anything in my bag or in my pocket for self-defense. But I have the best shield as protection. His name is Jesus Christ. He is my rock, my fortress, and my shield. And if he allows me to die, it will be best because I could see Him face to face - the one who loved me and gave Himself for me.
No matter you try to protect yourself, if you don't have Christ in your heart, you don't have the true protection! Consider Christ today.

actually anything you can get your hand can be used for self defense, its up to you on how to use it...even a simple comb can be a dangerous weapon if you know how to use it for self defense...the most important is to have the presence of mind when in that situation where you will have to defend your self...i still can go out without my swissknife, the one which has a lot of use for not just for self defense but for almost everything...

Yeah, I wish I can do that. One of my friend join a class for Self Defense for woman and they teach her how to use anything as a self defense... For me, I will be panick if anything bad happenned so I think I need to take a class on how to handle it first..

Hi afternoontea, a woman walking in the dark alone is really scary especially nowadays there are so many bad hats lurking around. So it is rather safe to have something which could to use for self defense. I always put a good whistle with high quality which could serve it purpose best in my bag. Besides, there is a small cylinder of pepper spray brought together with me. I will check these equipments regularly to ensure that they are still serviceable.

I carry my keys in my hands with my car key (which is the biggest) between two fingers so that I have a chance at poking it into someone's eyes if I need to. I used to carry pepper spray but, I think it is illegal now or something and, after forgetting that I had it with me at the airport once, it was confiscated and I never replaced it. Other than that, I would just do my best to use my own body in a fight. I have very pointy elbows and knobby knees and if there is a breath in my body, I would scream my head off. My teeth are strong and healthy so, I would use them. And my feet would carry me away. Basically, you can have every weapon in the book but, your best defense may be your own body.

I never thought about that before but its a good idea. I so seldom go out at night any place where it would be dangerous so I have never armed myself in any way.prehaps a can of mace might be wise but I would have to learn how to use it first. I think I will just stick to my safe routines and stay away from any place that might be dangerous.

I don't carry anything but the weight of my bag could knock a person out if I swung it hard enough I guess. I never thought about carrying anything really. Something I may actually need to think about.

I dont carry anything with me that can protect me in such cases., exceot for a ballpen which i can use - if i will have the time to actually locate that in my oh so messy bag.
we cannot be really sure nowadays can we?
my only protection is my daily prayers, to tell you honestly. I only have that and i guess God's protection over me is what i only hold against people who thinks so badly.

Dear friend,
Usually I do not carry except once. As a male compared to female these security measures can be avoided to certain limitation. Still once I had carried a knife and a iron rod when I had to travel alone in night through a jungle in High ranges of Kerala a State in India a place called Mundakayam. There I was along rinding in my jeep only the road was visible and light of the jeep I had to go around 8 kms form the town to a village, I accidentally took that route as they had told it is not safe to ride at night alone, ghost or theifs may come. But I had to reach that village were my parents were there as in between my jeep tyre got punctured the reason was that made me late. I was too away from town and too near to village. I felt really so relaxed when I reached the hut in the village. That ride was an unforgettable experience. My parent also scolded me not repeat that ride again again.

No, I don't carry anything with me for self defense. I do have my cell phone but nothing for a weapon.
I am almost never out at night by myself anyway so I am not too worried about it.
My husband is trained in hand to hand combat and is forever showing me self defense movements though.

Nothing really, but my bag most of the time is heavy enough to be used as a self defense.
I can use it to smack of the face whoever dares to do me harm.
It's getting really annoying having to carry really thick books, but it might come in handy someday like in these kind of situation.

I books in my bag . They defend me from being bored in queue.
I don't think about self defense. But since you inspired me, I will think of that. Yeah, it's important. Thx for inspiring me.

I used to carry pepper spray when I was taking night classes at the university. Now I don't, but I try to always stay alert. When I am pumping gas, I keep my keys in my hand so I can quickly get in the car if necessary and look around the whole time so no one can sneak up on me. The perfume thing sounds like a pretty good idea.
