Although this sort of thing has never happened to me... but it just crossed my mind...
Would you get offended if someone gives you fake flowers or plastic flowers?... i just don't know why... but i think it is rude to be given such... real flowers dies easily... but the thought of giving and receive real flowers shows sincerity...
So i think i would be offended... how about you?...

I wouldn't be offended because I can't kill fake flowers and fake flowers don't make me sneeze.

I don't think it would rude, I think it would be tacky. I would probably laugh if they were given to me in a romantic way.
Though a nice silk flower arrangement in a vase done tastefully might be nice.

Plastic flowers may look like real flowers but where's the fragrance. It is something with body but without soul. But still i will thank the person

Plastic flowers are still a gift. I think we shall appreciate to others' gifts. It's no way that I will be offended if someone gives me fake flowers or plastic flowers. It's still the nice present to me. I don't mind it at all. Sometimes people will think plastic flowers can last forever, that won't be a waste

*big smile*, I have real flowers, but those do not need to much light, and only needs water every fourth week. I have no touch with real flowers, but, plastic flowers is really more expensive than real once. So I would not be offended if I did get plastic flowers, at least I would not kill them. And for some reason I like things staying a live for ever....

Yes, some fake flowers are more expensive than the real ones... i saw some in the mall last week... they were quite beautiful... if you are familiar with the Everlasting flower... they don't actually die... so they are usually made into garlands... thanks for the response...

Right!I agree with you.The real flowers is really easier to die and maybe more expensive than the plastic one,but Ithink think the flower is not important, but it represent yourself. So if they sent the platic one it present that they are not sincerity so I also will be very angry. But I'm happy that I have nevr got it by now.

I agree with you... it does matter with the sense it is given... but during my younger years... to be given a fake flower is a sign of sarcasm... so that actually stuck in my mind... but now that i saw the opinions of those who responded to this discussion... i think it is time to change my outlook on this... thanks for the response...

Hello aseretdd,
I think I don't even care about it as I don't like flowers. Be it real or fake plastic flowers, they don't really bother me *smiles* Maybe when we are presented with a bouquet of plastic flowers, we will feel odd as it is not a normal practice *smiles*

I would never be offended if someone was thoughtful enough to give me a gift. However, I really don't care for plastic flowers. If they are fake I prefer silk flowers and I really think that silk flowers are pretty when they are made into a nice arrangement. If someone gave me a beautiful silk arrangement for the table, etc. I would love that for a gift. Everytime I would look at the arrangement I would think how thoughtful my friend was to have given that to me. :D

That is a nice way of putting it... there are now a lot of beautiful artificial flowers... and they can sometimes be mistaken as real ones... especially the silk flowers... i am not very good at flower arrangement... so something that is already arranged is fine with me... thanks for the response...

I agree, I've seen some really nice high quality flowers that were not real that took me even by suprise, you can find real looking ones even at Target and the higher quality ones are ORCHIDS which cost more but you don't have to replace it :)
I use fake flowers since I live at apartment and we cannot plant anymore since renovations but you can usually tell the ones that are going to fade alot when you buy them.
I think that would be a funny getting a fake flower from a guy and later realizing it was not real and wouldn't bother me and I would be impressed because obviously he did some looking but an obvious cheap flower wouldnt throw me off and wouldnt know why he even bothered unless it was something that I could actually use with my other flowers.

There is like a new technology in creating artificial flowers nowadays... they look so nice and real... and one would only realize that they are fake upon close examination... i wouldn't mind them... but i certainly don't want the cheap ones... thanks for the response...

I do not like plastic flowers but a bouquet of origami flowers made especially for me to celebrate my retirement means the world to me. Every time I look at them it reminds me of the library crew and of Kyotoa and how sweet and dear a friend she is. I worked there for twentyh three years and my coworkers became my friends and my family. so the origami flowers are precious to me.

It depends on any occasion. Some people might think that plastic flowers can stay longer so they give them to friends.
Real or Plastic is not the point...the point is that they really want to GIVE and that's from their sincere heart...please don't be offended..Smile..

I would be confused if someone bought me fake flowers. There is such a joy in getting beautiful real flowers that smell great , and are full of lfe . It is a proud thing and they look so lovely in a vase.
I do like to do crafts with the fake ones , and sometimes during the winter months , around xmas I will put red and white ones in a vase.

It would seem weird to receive or give fake flowers as a gift... it seems not right... but then with the technology today... fake flowers can be as beautiful as the real one... but nothing beats the essence of giving and receiving real flowers... thanks for the response...

It really depends on what occasion the flowers are for. If my husband gives me flowers, I am used to receiving fresh ones. A few months ago I told him not to waste money on fresh flowers, but to buy a pot plant instead. I have two pot plants now that flower. Fresh flowers are so expensive & dont last long.
For grave sites, I prefer plastic flowers., There are some very pretty ones available. Fresh flowers dont last long on graves & people steal them.Much better to have long lasting plastic flowers.

It is hard to offend me with any kind of gift because by definition a gift is something nobody is required to give. Although I never gave anyone a gift of artificial flowers, I like to put them on gift-wrapped packages along with the ribbons.
Yesterday we saw some artificial flowers that looked so real I had to tip the vase upside down to believe that the water was fake. They were gorgeous. Artificial flowers have a very interesting history. Did you know the Django Reinhardt, one of the most famous guitar players of all time, was gravely injured in a home fire resulting from artificial flowers that caught on fire? His was a story of heartbreak turned into inspiration and not only did Django play beautiful music all his life, but he is an inspiration to us all because of his courage and hard work.
Plastic flowers seem a little tacky sometimes, but for every gift of whatever kind there is usually some special meaning.

I won't mind receiving plastic or paper flowers as long as it is as beautiful as the fresh ones. It creates no differences especially if the intention of the giver is sincere and pure. I like the idea of receiving flowers for any occasions and reasons.

I once helped a friend buy fake flowers in the mall... and to my surprise... there are actually a lot of pretty one... and they look quite real... i was even tempted to buy some myself but i am glad i did not... or else the fake flowers would have ended up as a toy of my baby... thanks for the response...

I wouldn't be offended. It's the thought that counts. Plastic flowers don't die, but keep them out of the sun! They do fade. I've got plastic flowers in hanging baskets outside. One basket was exposed to the sun and the other wasn't. What a difference!

Well, you are right... it is the thought that counts... i don't have any plastic flowers on display in my apartment since i am afraid my baby will just make it her toy... but when i do have a couple... i will surely follow your advise... thanks for the response...

I haven't experienced it yet though, but I think it would be okay if someone would give me plastic flowers. As they say it is the thought that counts. But of course, I would prefer if it is real flowers as I find it more romantic if someone would send you real flowers. My favorite flower by the way is long stemmed pink roses.
