Some antivirus do really slow down the performance of your machine especially if you don't have enough SD-RAM installed in your computer. Example of antivirus that really slow down the speed performance of your machine is the Norton and Symantec. Please don't install the aforementioned antivirus if you're SD-RAM is only 128 MB. Personally, I am using ESET NOD32. It is very light on resources and it does its job pretty well. :-)

My mom just got a new computer that, I think, has a McAfee product on it really slows everything down. She didn't want AVG because it was updating all the time and did some other things she didn't like. I love AVG and find it really doesn't interfere with my computer much at all. But, I use a free version and I wonder if using a paid version gets more viruses.

See no antivirus can remove all the virus!!!!!!!!!! All antivirus will surely slow down your system and also much slow boot up.................. So better install windows defender which is available from microsoft website. Let me tell why? All virus install automatically without your knowledge So immediately after next start up virus will run.Windows defender will detect the changes in registry and system folder (usuall C:\Windows) so simply decline the process installation. So that your system is prevented from virus attack. Antivirus usually have definition only for popular viruses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, mcafee or norton antivirus eat more resources. I suggest you to add more RAM or change with another antivirus that didn't eat more resources like NOD32; AVG.
