Have you ever been mislead by a doctor but caught it before it was to late?

My friend recently went to the ER to see if she had a miscarriage because she was bleeding, they told her that she did.. She (thankfully!) said she wanted a second opinion to make sure. and the doctor after the one before said the babys heart beat was 140!
She said she would have unknowingly given an abortion!
That makes me scared to trust any doctor.

Not all doctors are like that. Infact when I guessed I am pregnant for the second time, I visited a nearby doctor for a opinion. I had taken pills to postpone my periods by a week and I didnot get it after that. But I had all the symptoms of pregnancy. When I consulted her, her immediate reply was, as you have taken those pills and have conceived too, your baby will have lots of deformity, I have seen so many cases like this, so you need to go for an abortion. My instinct said not to do that and I went for a second opinion and now I have a lovely son.

It's good that your friend was intelligent enough to ask for a second opinion. I would want to know how the first doctor made the mistake.
You are right, that you should not trust any doctor. Not because they're all untrustworthy, but because you / we need to be responsible for our own health issues and the doctors work for us!

Oh, that was close. Is there a way for that doctor to have a re-training? He could kill people who trust him he knows what he's doing. I just hope the Doctors Association (I don't know what it's specifically called in the US) will note of every incident like that and if a doctor is complained about just one similar incident, he is subject to a mandatory retraining and suspension of license until he completes that re-training.
