If you did, what did you do instead? When I was at school, the teachers were having strikes and so for a long time we would turn up at school, only to be sent home again because there were no teachers to teach. It was an ideal time to skive off for the whole day though as no one really checked up on us during this time! But it soon became a habit and when the teachers strike ended, we carried on skiving! Only one day at my friends house, her mum came home early and caught us, she was not a very nice mum because she told the school and they in turn told my mum and dad, boy did I get into trouble for it, I was grounded for a week and had to go to bed early too!! I never did it again though. So if you skived, did you ever get caught?

I did skip school a couple of times with friends. I was very guttsy, because my dad worked for the city so he was always out and about. But he never caught me. We would walk to my friends house and play games. But once I skipped and got drunk. I drove a truck that was stick shift. I had never drove a stick shift before. Went back to school and my friend passed out in the hall. So they put two and two together. I was caught also. They asked who I wanted them to call. My mom or my dad? I said please call my dad. I knew my mom would kill me. My dad shows up and lets me drive my car home. By this time I am scared sobber. My mom gets home and takes my keys. I was suspended for a week from school. I never skipped again.

You are telling me you were gutsy, I would have been hung, drawn and quartered for that! When I got caught, I begged the teachers not to tell my parents, I said they would kill me, but they told anyway, and teachers wonder why kids do not tell them anything!! I enjoyed reading your story, thanks for sharing it!!

When I was a Senior in high school, a friend of mine asked me to ditch school to go get doughnuts with him. I looked him straight in the eye and said, "I can't ditch, because one day I will have children and I have to be able to honestly tell them that I never ditched school when I was a kid." He told me I was too wierd!

That certainly was a grown up response! How old were you when you said that! That was the last thing I was thinking of, the future. But hey at least you can say honestly that you never did skip!!

When I was in highschool I dont think that I was ever in class. Somehow I still did pretty well. I will never forget showing up for one of my math finals when i was a junior in high school, and the people asking me if I was in the class. I had not been there for probably a month. I was always out with friends, going to the mall, and really everything except what I was supposed to be doing.

We used to "dog it" all the time, we wouldn't get caught, & if we did, we didn't care. Or we would smoke green before school & at the breaks, go back to class, eat sweets & stuff, then fall asleep. Teachers just gave up coz we didnt listen, & some of us were quite violent if the teachers started moaning.

Oh yeah, I played hooky/skipped school all the time. The grades I skipped the most were 5th, 7th, and 9th grade. I skipped so much school it is amazing I graduated at all and on time! Yes, I got caught, though my poor mom had no idea until a few months later when the school was finally able to get in contact with her. Each time I did go back, but in the 9th grade I was pretty far behind so I was put in an alternative school the following school year. I loved it and did so well that I was able to graduate with my class.
As far as where I went while skipping school? I walked around town or stayed home when my mom was at work. Boy, those were the days. LOL

I rarely skipped school altogether. But I did used to skip classes a lot. Sad to say not for any fun reasons, though. Usually if I ended up skipping my first-period class it was because I was late and just couldn't bare walking in twenty minutes into the class and being lectured in front of everybody. And sometimes I would skip a class in order to finish homework or a project for another class I had coming up later in the day. And of course there was senior cut day, where we all went to Central Park together, but that was such a tradition, it was practically sanctioned by the school. Oh, and I did skip school in junior high one day, but it was toward the end of the school year and we were having all these reverse half days. My friends and I had met up early to have lunch at Burger King and our way to school it started pouring! I didn't want to go to school soaking wet like that, so I went to my friend's house instead and we just hung out.

I know this makes me sound like a goody goody (and some people already think I am - they are wrong though) but I only ever skived off once! Yep once! We went to my friends house for lunch and spent my lunch money on sweets and just decided we didn't want to go back in the afternoon! I didn't get caught but I was so worried that I would!
My brother though was always skiving off - he used to go miles away to avoid being caught but Pop was a Clerk Of Works and his job took him all over the region and every time he caught my brother - it was uncanny the way he would always see him in the middle of nowhere! lol Didn't stop my bother though! xxx

mywhat a long time ago,Iwalked out of class one day in he third grade because my teacher Miss thornton struck myknuckles with the metal edge of a ruler because she did not like my m's I remember walking to my dad's office with myfinger bleeding and telling him what she had done He was furious with her and made me stay in our car while he went in and told the teacher exactly what he thought of that. then he took me for an ice cream cone and kept me home the rest of the day. I had a tummy ache every day for three days after that and finally mydad insisted I had to go back to school and to miss
thornton again. she did treat me a lot differently after that talk with my dad he was a doctor and he fixed my hurt hand. The odd thing was after that she was actuallyvery nice to me and she taught me again in the fifth grade and had me moved up a grade because of my good grades. so i went from the fifth grade into the seventh grade because I was a high IQ kid.

What a hero your dad was! I am not surprised you did not want to go back to school though I do not think I would either, there was nothing like that when I was at school.

Generally I was a goodie two shoes, I suppose. Although when we had 'free periods' and I was supposed to be studying in the library then I would go off to the local sweet shop and get candy for myself and my friends (on a dare of course!) or later on when I got bolder I would visit other shops along the high street. Lucky for me I never got caught!

We were never allowed out of school in school time, but it never stopped us, we used to go across the road and have chips for our dinners and then buy single ciggies from the sweet shop too! I never got caught luckily doing that or I would have been in big trouble.

Oh yeah, did we ever - not all the time but on occasion. We called it "wagging" and not sure how that term came about.
Funny enough we wouldn't go that far. It's either hanging at a friends place, on the basketball court or in the gym.

Funnily enough thats what we used to call it when I was at school too, wagging, I was not sure if anyone would know what I meant if I used that though!

I was alway skipping. In nineth grade I would skip every other day. I actually racked up 61 after school detentions by the end of the year. Got off with one Saturday school though. Had to work extra hard junior and senior year to make up for it. But it all worked out. However, if I find my son does this he will be grounded for life.

To some degree, I am not a good girl, cos I always played hooky when I was at school. The theachers were so boring and the classed are tedious,so I didn't go to shool very often,I'd rather teach myself at my dormitary.Yes,I get caught several times by our counsellor at college. He was very strict and stubborn,we were not allowed to stay at our dormitary during class time. But I didn't give up ,I fought against him, finally I won!I was the only one who was permitted stay at domitary during class time!

Once in my school day, i and my classmates scape from classes to play video games because we know that our teacher for that subject is absent and 2 hours more before our next subject... But that once was caught because after one hour our teacher came and teach the rest. lol i never did it again... i was afraid to be caught...

Yes quite often, I hated school especially my last couple of years thanks to one person who made my life hell. I was never caught although someone in our villiage did see me and tell my mum once I told her it couldnt possibly be me and she believed me!

Oh man, when I was in school...I started skipping class on a regular basis by the second grade. I would hold the thermometer up to the heater and say I had a fever. And as I got older, I would just stay home because of severe morning anxiety. My parents didn't approve and tried to help me out, but with absolutely no success.
I never had to deal with getting caught, since I live out in the country and it would be nothing short of impossible to "hide" from my parents. The only way to do that would be to crouch in the woods for hours. I'd rather not.
I have never been grounded once in my life. If I did something wrong, the consequences were my punishment, and believe me the consequences were reason enough for me to cut back on my skipping habit.
Overall, I would say that people should never even start skipping because you could become so used to it. You could find yourself sitting in a boardroom full of teachers and staff, watching them contemplate whether or not to give you a diploma.

Yes you are so right, but at the time leaving school with qualifications is the last thing on a kids mind. Its funny how when you are older you wish you had done things different, if I could I would go back to my school days just to resit my exams.
