The other day I was sat reading the paper when I came across quite a disturbing article.
Anyway, There was this man who was an Alcoholic and used to get very angry at his dog for messing on the carpet.
So angry that one day he thought it would be a good idea to put the dog in the washing machine for two minutes to, I quote 'teach it a lesson'.
When he took the dog out its tail was wagging so he put it back in and went and sat on the sofa and fell asleep.
The next day he woke to a dead dog in his washing machine that he had drowned and battered to death.
He was done for animal cruelty and a brief jail sentence.
What extremes do you go to teach your dog or pet??
Are you am animal lover who wouldn't hurt a mouse??
What should be done about these types of people who use animal cruelty behind closed doors???All answers are welcome, it's an open-minded discussion so no need to hold back!!

Before, whenever I open the refrigerator, our cat would always want to go inside the fridge, so out of fun i let him go inside then I closed the door and waited 5 seconds before opening it again. Since then the cat wouldn't want to go inside the fridge, even if I push him.
Don't think I am a mean master - I did it just to prove a point, and it did. I love my cat so much and I treat him like a baby. Actually, he just celebrated his first birthday and we even cooked some celebration foods, and he even have a cake of his own!

My cat used to try and climb inside the fridge, too. I was afraid he'd get trapped in there my accident so I did the same thing as you and shut the door on him once on purpose(it's only about 40 degrees in there, so 5 seconds in there isn't going to hurt a cat). I thought the same thing would happen, that the dark would freak him out a bit and he would quit trying to get in there. Instead, I open the door and the cat is actually laying down, lounging on the shelf like the king of the world. So I had to pull him out and resorted to flicking water on him when he tried to climb in to break him of the habit.

story's like that make me sick. i don't understand how people can do things like that to animals.
my dog is spoiled! he probably gets treated better then some humans! he sleeps with me, goes for car rides, i'm always buying him new toys and junk. i can't even go to the store without at least looking to see if they have something i think he'd like and i love him so much! he's a big part of my family and he's so good and loving!

This is terrible. I have a beautiful German Shephard that really doesn't know he is a dog. I had him obedience trained because I knew he would be a handful. I don't really have to do much of anything to punish him. Usually my tone of voice is a give-away. He goes to his bed and puts his head down and looks up so sadly when he is being punished.
I think some people shouldn't ever be pet owners. This is such a shame and I think he should be jailed and fined as he took another living creature's life. How sad this is.

Its so sad to hear it.
I have already read it in the newspapers and I wasnt alright for next few days......
I am a bit too sensitive in the topic of even killing an insect. How could he have done that?
During his childhood days ,he too may have done loads of mischief.
If his parents would have given such a punishment, what would he think?
In what ways are humans and animals different?
Both have the equallly precious life.
I hope these incidences do not repeat.

My pets are an extension of my kids .. They just have fur. They are family and deserve to be treated as such I would never ever hurt my dog for being bad or making a mistake I would however show the dog or kitty the place where they messed and tell them no and show them the appropriate place. A stern no and then properly showing them where to go is all that is usually needed.

As a pet owner that really upset me to read that the guy thought this was going to teach the dog a lesson.
When my dogs misbehave, there is a rolled up newspaper for them and a quick NO BAD DOG!
My dogs are sopiled though. They sleep on the bed, they go for rides in the car, have to have a certain food that now I HAVE to put water in to make the gravy.
But now, for some reason, they don't get along and my beagle will bark and growl and then it sets off my black lab to bite him really bad.
So my solution, I have them tied on different corners of the room. They can see each other, but still don't get along.
I have even tried a muzzel with the black lab and she just fights it and the beagle just barks and barks. Both I guess want to be the alpha dog. I can't stand the thought of parting with either of them.
I can't wait until summer and they can be tied outside and then maybe the aggession will go away.
I have an outside dog also and he will even get the left overs from dinner, but not the ones inside. He has a really nice dog house and if it gets too cold outside he will be brought inside to the basement. He actually belongs to my ex because I had to get rid of him when he started biting my kids when they would hug me and then would go after my now hubby. He makes a really good watch dog and is good with my two older boys, but still does not like my younger two or my hubby.
I bath them and put skin-so-soft on them after that and brush them.
