Graffiti....destruction of property or art?

If I owned a building and taggers kept coming by and defacing my property I would be really upset. If I caught them I would beat them black and blue and make them repaint my building. That being said I think some graffiti is really good and interesting to look at. I think the urban cities need to provide more walls for graffiti. Some of these guys are so talented and deserve a place to put there art. We have a wall in town where the train passes through and the graffiti is awesome. I think graffiti in the right place is art and beautiful. Done in the wrong places it is ugly and a destruction of property. How do you feel about Graffiti?

I think some graffiti is beautiful when done in the right setting and place. If it's tagging then apartment buildings are no place for that at all. I agree that they should offer more places for this kind of art to be displayed.

I don't think it is the PLACE that makes graffiti art/beautiful or ugly/destruction. The same tag in two places is still the same tag and is just as ugly on my fence as it is on your wall.
There's a lot more to graffiti than tagging. There's a lot of really nice artwork that is graffiti. I am not a fan of tags and I think they're useless because they're just saying "So-and-so was here," which has nothing to do with creating an artwork or making a statement. Real art? Whatever the medium, I think art is wonderful. If I owned a biu;ding and there was graffiti ART put on the walls, I'd probably enjoy it as long as it wasn't offensive. Tags? I'd paint over them every time.
My art college has a stairwell called The Graffiti Stairs and there's all sorts of artwork in there, graffiti and non. It's fantastic.I really enjoy it.
So to me, it all depends on the content as to whether it's "art" or not, not where it is. A tag, a signature, isn't art no matter where it is. Art is art and beautiful is beautiful no matter where it is.

I agree with you. Some graffiti is very well done, and artistic, but others that are just written words or something on someone's property is rude and destructive.

for me its absolutely artistic works, but to paint it illegally on public wall is vandalisms.

I agree there is a time and place for grafiti but not necessarily on my or anyone else's building or public transport.
Some of those guys are really talented and yes, it is a shame that they don't have somewhere that they can exhibit their art. But I thought that the point of graffiti is to do it where you are not allowed to do it! Makes it more 'fun' - not that I see that way.
Yep totally agree with you!

First of all just because somebody uses a spray it doesn't make a graffiti. There are tons of those pseudo-graffitis on the blocks but the true ones always are sketched first and then people spent more than 5 minutes making them. And for me those are examples of modern art. In fact in my city there's a place where graffitis were made on purpose and legally like 800m long wall with graffitis all over that were made as an exhibition^_^

i would agree with you 100% it all depends on where the graffiti is placed and what kind of graffiti it is. If its meant to be enjoyed then yes its nice on some buildings and or trains etc.. but the stupid names and signs and just to do it those people really need to get a life and job
