Do you taste your food before you season it with salt or pepper or other seasonings? I have a bad habit of dishing up the food and putting salt and pepper on it right away. How about you?

I do that with pepper i love pepper but salt im not a fan of i will taste the food before i eat it then if i think it needs it then i will add the salt but even when i cook i find myself putting very little salt into my food That way i have the taste i like and others can add what they want since my fiance loves thing highly seasoned

That's a good idea. When I am cooking for others I don't add extra anything either.....

It's a saying in the catering Business that addding seasoning to your plate is an insult to the Chef...Working in a Restaurant, the Number of people I see after I put their meal on the table who reach automatically for the salt and/or the pepper without even picking up the fork to taste it first..GAH!!!I was working last night, and happened to notice a Woman pouring salt onto Her Smoked Salmon...

My mother never used salt and it's passed on from me to my kids. None of us use it but we do use pepper.

It all depends on what it is. If I am cooking eggs or gravy I don't taste it, I just pour some salt and pepper. If I am eating French fries then I taste one and if it doesn't have enough salt then I add more. So it really all depends.

That's true....I don't salt my eggs either or pepper them until they are done.

When I am cooking I usually sprinkle just very little of salt and pepper. Then afterwards, I taste it. I just add more if its needed. In restaurants for example ,I taste the food first before adding salt or pepper. But for pizza, I love pepper. I like to add dash of pepper and hot sauce on my slice of pizza.

I do like pepper but haven't tried it on pizza! That's one I'll have to try!

I'm guilty of the same thing as you are. Not so much with the pepper, I definately do that with the salt though. I'm a saltaholic. I know it's not good for me but I try to fool myself by saying that my blood pressure is really low. I know that doesn't make it any healthier but I have a hard time eating things without doing that because they just taste so bland to me. I have a habit of doing that with tobasco sauce on chili too.

I season my food lightly during cooking, jillhill, since I have to watch my salt intake. If I have company for dinner I will leave it up to them to add more seasoning if they want.

I use salt in food when I am cooking it but we never put salt onto cooked food. I don't like the taste of it at all and hubby has hight blood pressure so we have to make sure we do not eat too much salt

I do blindly add salt and pepper to my food without tasting it first. It is a bad habit, but I have many other worse habits.

Yes i already put salt and pepper before i taste it. Like in chicken meat. I make sure that the meat itself has a taste but i only put what i think is enough. Not salty. After wards taste it and added if needed.

that was the bad habit that makes my food more tastier just like the process of marinating. Putting some salt is depend on the dishes because there are ingredients that can be added to the taste of you were cooking.

I season the foods I am cooking after the first few steps in the procedure, then after a while I will taste it and adjust the seasonings from there.

I guess it depends on the food! If I always make the food the same way I will season it the same, but if I have a different thing I am eating I will season it after i try it!

its being one of the best combinations.... i think salt and pepper have won lots of hearts world wide...but i still prefer honey and lemon for their auiervedic effects...which enhances the shine of the skin and hair...!

I seldom use slat or put them on my dishes, we have fish sauce here that could replace salt but tasty as well. And when I put a salt, I use iodized. But I do taste the foods that I cook, because I don't really use conventional measuring cups or spoons when cooking. I add pepper to give it a little kick, salt to taste and some seasonings too..

I do. I find myself sensitive to salt and things taste overly salty often times without my adding any before eating it. Pepper I can generally put on without tasting first because, well - it is obvious for the most part how peppered something is.
