Writing is also a good outlet in whatever emotions you feel. It just sad that your creative writing juices can only be activated when you feel sad or not happy.
Anyways, when I am not happy, just like jstaubin, I usually resort to listening to loud music -- angst-filled music. :)

Yes, me too. I can express my feelings more in writing if I'm unhappy or hurt or disappointed.

writing is the best way to deal with feelings and stress i think...there is a big difference between the quality of happiness between writers and non writers i have noticed.
I used to work at a really crappy job and everyday i would sit in my car and write on my lunch break. the rest of the people i worked with probably thought i was nuts but it was the only way i stayed sane...i have a lot of those notebooks, i could probably publish a collection called "reflections of the home depot parking lot" lol...

Writing really helped me out when I had mild depression. I had always loved writing and you look at my stuff and see how the content and mood changes as I go through different things. I really did help me get my emotions out in the open and release everything.
