I do the same. I usually don't remember it's there unless the post has really stuck out to me. I usually only rate users as positive, but then again, there are some posts that in my opinion are just not at all positive. The only time I ever rate a person negative is if they answered my discussion without actually reading the discussion itself, and answered off of the question. You can't always tell, but if you ask a question and mean something all together different, than it's easy to tell. I also rate users negative when they post their referral links in discussions, because they aren't supposed to do that, and shouldn't be awarded either.

I try to remember to do this to every discussion I ever respond too. I also try and remember to do this to people who respond back to me in my Discussions that I have started, and if I am reading the posts in a discussion before I answer there if I see one I really like, I will mark it as well. I feel it is a Vital part of being a member here is Rating someone.

I check fairly often to see if I have given people plenty of time to respond to the discussions I have started. When I have, I will go through the responses and choose a best one for each topic, then I will also rate the other responses while I am there.

i usualy rate people if i either think that a post adds something, or its just a post that is not realy adding something. i dont really do the rating just becouse people respond, i try to check that the responses actually add something good to the discussion.

I always rate discussions and responses here in mylot...
I give a positive rating to:
1. All those who response or leave a comment to the discussions that i started... even those that are completely opposite to my opinion...
2. those who leave a comment to the response that i make to their discussion... this gesture will make me feel like the member really cares about his/her discussion... and it is not for the sake of starting one... but to generate a healthy and good discussion...
3. All discussions that i think are well thought of and thought provoking...

I try to rate everyone that post to my Questions. I give positives to almost everyone. There are some people that are so out in left field without a glove that I give them a negative. Also when I respond to a post I will go through and rate the people that post there also.

I tend to hit the + most of the time as that is what controls the star rating. I even hit it for the responses that are not well written as there are a lot of non english speakers here, who have trouble expressing themselves in English.
The only time I hit - is if the response is nonsense or someone going on about Jesus or god in a discussion that has nothing to do with religion.
