How can each of us as citizens of the world effect the disasterous happenings in Africa the Genocide occurring in Rwanda, Congo, Darfur, and other places. We need to find a way to get the governments of civilized nations to take a stand against it. Then they can get things going as was done in the former Yugoslavia to prevent Genocide. We should be tired of all this senseless violence and Killing and be able to spend our resources fighting disease and ignorance.

If the people in these countries do not take a stand against the corruption that exists, then no matter what aid they are given, nothing will change. A lot of International Aid is already poured into these countries, but nothing changes or if it does, then it is only for a short time before things return to what they were before the intervention.
I am not sure what the answer is really but they certainly do need to be taught how to feed themselves as a nation. The United Nations is very reluctant to become involved in sorting out the problem and perhaps one of the initial steps should be that the United Nations itself is sorted out, because without UN sanction, any country that tries to remedy the situation will be accused of all sorts of things.

Yeah it is definately something that needs to be handled. When I think of what they have done to the women and to the children it makes me sick. I wish I could do something my self. The government shouldnt over look what is going on. It seems that when it benefits them to intervien they do but when it dosent they over look it and brush it aside. Maybe there should be someone who is focused on the issue to take it to world. That would be good, but getting people to listen it the hard part

I believe we have to be more informed. There are too many people who don't watch the news, read newspapers, or stay informed on what's going on in this world. Check out online sites that offer to help these areas of the world, but also remember that there are corrupt officials in many oountries that will take whatever aid is sent and use it for their own purposes rather than passing it on to the people who need it. The UN needs to be revamped in some way, and I don't know what way. It just needs to be changed so it can actually do some good in the world. The thought of genocide in any country makes me ill, and we should all stand up and shout that we're not going to take it any more...then do something about it in whatever way we can.

anyone who wants to help with this problem should go to this website:
http://www.invisiblechildren.com/it's a website that's trying to raise awarenes for all the poor people in these countries - specifically uganda
Also there's this one
http://www.tenthousandhomes.com
this one is for an organizatin that's trying to build homes for orphans, orphanages and families with nothing in africa!I can personally vouch for both of these organizations!

thanks for the Linksd and starting this topic I think asking our govt to put pressure on the leaders of these country should work.Only building international pressure on these countries can help people of these countries.US can play a major role in it.

I think it's horrible, but I think the first step should be the citizens of those countries stepping in and take out the govt that is doing this. The US gets involved and the world would be up in arms about us getting in other countries business. But I think it should be stopped.

most of the government don't care about what happens in Africa is simply because they are black... i've seen the movie hotel rwanda and in the movie they said that if this genocide happened to a white community, a lot of people would be involve to stop it... but they are black and much worse they are africans... even in the age that we say we are living in a society with less discrimination, we still apt to forget other races just because we feel that we are not responsible for them and they are lesser people than us... that is the harsh reality we need to face and that our nation should try to change...

i couldnt agree more. the thought of this stuff going on right now breaks my heart. Each person in this world IS a person. not just someone who doesnt matter, they do matter. Each person deserves a chance to live their life out instead of being killed for no reason. I cant imagine the suffering thats going on in those places, it makes my stomach turn to think about it. I am so thankful that i was born an American, but i feel so awful for those innocent people that they dont have the same chances in life that we do. I wish there was someway that the genocide could be stopped. Prayer might be all i can offer, but its pretty powerful in my opinion.

Educate people in the awareness in terms of non-violence as propagated by Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi.
Once people have good nutrition-optimum protein, low salt, low sugar, low carbohydrate and having one liter of water for every 44lbs o0 body wieght, the mind also functions in the right direction. People become focussed and do the right things!! giving up violence and other negative tendencies!!

You all should think like you, trying to be a better world citizen, and make this a better world, not much think that way and for those only matters money and power. The human lives that are lost till they reach their goal are nit worth it, they are just collateral damages, I also like to help to make this a better world but for sure with the mentalities that exist in that countries will be a hard task.

Nope. Not unless there's a serious national uprising to stop the genocide in various African countries, like the Sudan.
It's important. And it's very surely genocide, don't let anyone tell you it's not. Genocide, by definition, is killing a group of ppl based on their ethnicity, religion, belief systems, etc.
Like Gandhi said, "be the change you wish to see in the world". If you are concerned about the genocide in Africa, speak out about it. Tell everyone you know. Organization information parties. Petition your congressman. Do whatever you can as a responsible citizen of the world to stop what's happening in Africa for continuing..
And remember how easily it could've been you who was born to a mother in subsaharan Africa. and what it would be like for you.

well good question there , as citizens we try to do the right thing , world bank controls policy in place over in those african countrys by tryuiing to lend them money and then getting them into debt like most countrys thruout world.
As a smimple citizen we just try to help out with charity and good will , even sponsoring a family over in one of the countrys , but at the end of the day , ther are bigger players in the picture responsible for the rife occuring.
