I survived a house fire when I was a young child, and the biggest loss were the personal memories that had been captured on film. It was February 1980, and having been born in 1972, most of my childhood was on "slides". Remember those? (I think you can still get them, but they're likely quite costly now lol). They had all been stored in a trunk in the basement, where the fire had started. My childhood literally melted away. I have a few photos now, but most things had been on slides.
Anyways, because of the loss of that, I think the things I would gather would be my sons baby books and photo albums. Which 3 would be hard, because I've had 4 sons, and one of them passed away. They're all in the same cupboard though, so I could easily get to them all quickly. Hey.. if I put them all in one plastic bag, does that count as only one thing?
Stuff can be replaced, and I'm not a very materialistic person... but those photo albums and baby books mean the world to me. So as you said, assuming the people were all safe and accounted for, it's those books I'd grab. I don't care about anything else. Oh wait.. that's not true... I have video footage of all of my boys and my recently deceased father too. I'd want that as well. Quite conveniently, those are currently located less than 10 feet from those books. lol.

1. My purse
2. My wedding rings if I had taken them off by the sink
3. Our file of important papers
That is assuming I had clothes on my back and shoes on my feet.
What would you take?

First thing would be my ipod and cell phone - cant live without them. Then i will find all the pictures album i have in the house, losing great memories is a total loss.
And last thing, my special case, where i kept all the letters and stuff my gf gave me from the beginning

Thats a very hard thing to choose.
1) i'd grab my purse because then id still have id and access to a credit card or bank account so i could get a hotel room or soemthing.
2) well if it was winter id be grabbing boots and coats as fast as possible.
3) More than likely for the third item id be grabbing soemthing near the door like my laptop bag with whatever was in it (oddly enough i keep a toothbursh deodurant some knitting and a few books pens paper etc in there with my laptop.
Its such a hard thing to think about. Maybe id be hoping that i was packed to go on a trip and could just grab my suitcase so id have some clothing to wear.
