It's true how some smokers live longer than people who live a healthy life. I guess if it's your time to go, you have to go. I'm a smoker myself. There was this time when a friend of mine asked me why I smoke. I wasn't able to give her an answer for a while, but then I just said: "Because I want to!" Well, I guess that plus the fact that smoking kills leave a lot to be desired.

I love forensic science. It is fascinating. Also at the Ohio Center for Broadcasting we watched a CSI behind the scenes tape. How fascinating working with every little detail, lighting, etc for the show. Real cool!

Gret, I am sure you can have much more fun with your money than let it burn below your nose. : )

There's nothing appealing about smoking once you start-best advice is to stay clear of it so you don't get hooked

There's nothing special about it. A lot of people either started young to be considered "cool" or started to deal with stress. I started in college, basically to deal with stress, but I didn't do it often. Never enough to validate buying a pack; I was a bum. But then I'd smoke a few when I was out at the club or in a bar. Then it just kinda snowballed from there. I don't honestly know why. Now it's something I do without totally knowing why. I think boredom is part of it. Also, the few occations when I tried quitting, I found that a lot of times, I do it either to manage stress or just to have something in my hand. I'd find myself holding a pen or stick or something in my hand like a cig. Right now I have no plans to quit, for whatever reason, but eventually I hope I'll be able to.

*sigh* Sadly, as I posted this, I realized the...I don't know...oddness? Irony? Mere coincidence? ...That I was smoking while replying. How weird.

I first started when I was 15. All of my older friends smoked and I thought it was cool and and I thought they would make fun of me unless I smoked to. Well now I am 26 and i can't quit! I should have never started.

I am 45 and quit at 37. Now you at 26 is as good a time to quit as any. I don't know if you are a female or male, but if female hopefully you did not destroy your chance of having children. Either way, if you tell yourself you 'can't' quit, then you are right. If you tell yourself you 'can' quit, then you are right. Your brain will believe whatever you repeat. Society in general is on your side if you want to quit, so at least know that much. It is now up to you. I have to tell you though, being smoke free now, is such a freedom in so many ways. Feeling how much you would love to be smoke free and how your lifestyle would be different, is up to you. Only you know those answers and only you know your own strengths inside as to what makes you stick to a goal. Nobody knows that but you inside your own mind. Make it a passionate goal and you will succeed.

They started by thinking it was cool to smoke because they either saw someone famous smoke or wanted to fit in. But now, they are simply addicted.

my dear, you have to be in it to know it. you cant simply know the alluring nature of smoking by watching your friends or seniors. it brings a new charm. it reduces tension when your mind is filled with heaviness. so be in it to know it............

I don't know what the big thing about smoking it. But I do know it is just an addiction that is hard to kick. I 've seen people go through withdraw. I don't smoke though so I don't know the real reason.
