Sell on greed, buy on fear.
Currently, the market is extremely volatile. The market direction although had been seeing some light at the end of the tunnel amidst credit crunch and unsolvable subprime woes is technically speaking oversold. If you have holding power, it is time to buy some low P/E stocks which just may turns out to be multi-baggers in maybe less than a year due to the fed's credit plan and Asia's QDII to boost the overall investing climate to a certain extend. If you were to enter the market at the recovery, your ROI may not be very attractive. Commodities' chart seems to be inclining in an exhausted manner with slowing down indicators.
Cheers. Caveat Emptor at the end of the day.

I think the stock market is not that stable in China now. And most of the investers are just do not know that much about investment science, even the basic concept. It's the money that drives them into the market.
I myself want to enter as well. But I am still a student and do not have enough money to do that. And before doing so, I would like to arm myself with some knowledge of investment. It's better for me to do that in a wise way.

yeah i have been in the stock market in China for more than 10 years though most of the years i keep my stock account empty. these days the Shanghai index just get cracy and go down and down. i lost more than 3800 yuan already.however i am not waiting for a lower point and may enter again , hopefully i will win the money back, hehe!
p.s. i bought chinapetrorim(601857) at 45.1 and sold at 37, however i am lucky as it is not less than 18!

Same story with me but i rather put blame on myself my own strategy in dealing with stock cause me losses though as i gained some experience doing online trading in the stock market i have recovered most of my initial capital and i am being optimist that i will be making profits soon Inshallah, maybe just in 15 days or so i'll be in profit,i do think its rather our strategy that puts us in this position for instance one day i traded and had a positive balance of 1500 that was added to my capital but lust for more made me loose not only profits but i ended up with 2600 negative balance so one must be careful and should know how and when to stop so that might not end up bankrupt :P

Stocks are good when we understand the game well. Remember, trading is all about fear and greed. If we govern our emotions well, then chances we will profit or have small losses only.
I prefer forex as they are easier to manage and trade. Not much homework you need to do to trade forex compared to stocks or options.

Currently I am out as the stock market is very unstable now. Since the economy in USA becomes worse, it has a big effect on many countries. So perhaps at present it's better to leave this stock market.

yes, you're smart if you leave it at a early time,
but your result is not satisfying, pherhaps somehow regretful.

These days, with the US sub-prime problem and the potential US recession fear hanging around, the world's stock markets have been quite negatively hit. If you have invested in the market a couple of months back, you would be facing a significant paper loss currently. Like you, my paper loss is quite significant also, but I am not panicking. If you adopt a longer term perspective to stock market trading and don't think of making a quick buck, you should not have to worry too much because the markets will rebound later, maybe in the 2nd half of the year or towards year-end. One advice I can offer is to choose stocks that pay reasonably good dividend, so that even while your funds are locked into stocks which have their prices depressed now, you can still get dividend yield better than your bank interest. Well, China's economy will rise, and so will the Chinese stock market in time to come especially with the Olympics coming near, so wait for the index to pick up to reap some profits. For now, just hang in there and don't panic because things will get better over time.

Hi Felix, I read in the papers this morning that the Shanghai Composite Index nosedived more than 5% to 3411.49 yesterday, so I can very much understand your concern. Looks like you just have to wait for better times and recovery. Many people are scared off by the market volatility but I am not. Whatever the market, there are always opportunities, because stocks don't go in a straight line. Whether trending up or down, there are ups and downs in short-term trades, which can present opportunities to investors. Your earlier shares might be stuck for now, but if you have more resources, you can (a) take the opportunity when markets are depressed and perhaps nearer the bottom to bottom-fish and average your positions and after the averaging, you may be in much better position to take advantage of any upside when the market recovers, or (b) you can take short-term positions to buy good quality stocks which may see sudden rebounds over a few positive trading days, and reap you a good quick return. I have seen many such opportunities even in depressed markets. If you are not greedy and take profit after you buy a depressed stock and bail out after say a few % gain, you can still make money.

Hi,
I'm in the stock market for about 4 months and I only concentrate on 1 stock. :-)
Currently, the stock I bought is making negative returns for me but I'm not panic because I know the stock I bought is having high potential to rise in the near future.
I'm trying to find out more stocks that have great fundamental and I found some. They are great stocks and I will invest my money in those stocks soon when it hits the price I set. :-)

Congratulations on your graduation from college!!! As far as the stock market, don't lose hope. It will probably turn around even if it takes a few years. It sounds like you may need to diversify your investments and only invest what you can afford to lose. I am from America but I am currently teaching English in China. I currently have money in "sharebuilder", US savings bonds, and the credit union that I had before I left my last job. I would invest more, but I don't currently make enough. It has been suggested that I invest in Asian markets, but based on what you are saying, I don't know if that is such a good idea. I know that when it is low is a good time to buy because it will almost certainly go up. I have also been told that I should invest in silver. I am really hestiant to invest in anything right now though. Hold on to them because I'm sure the stock market will improve!!! Good luck!!!

I just wish I could find someone who knows something about it to advise me on investments in this area. I don't trust a 16year old telling me how to spend my money if you know what I mean.

I think that American stocks wil always be steady as well as the economy in Europe. The cost of Gold fluctuates but even as American stocks fall in price they will have to come up sooner or later. The laws and regulations put in after the depression make sure of this. The economy of America is the best to invest in!

Me personally, I wouldn't do it. Not based on the current way the stock markets are heading, in the US atleast. It seems more risky than usual.

I don't have any experience in stockmarket but i have some in forex market (a market where we trading currencies)and i think that gain profit or lost is the things that always happen with everybody on market .Last time ,I see the price of Dollar rise higher and I put all my money in buy position but one night ,when FeD cut the interest rate and I lost all of money . But after that ,I try to restart myself and invest again .
Nowaday I think stock market or any finance market like a game ,we try to win in these game ,and if lost ,try to restart the game .

China stock market is not the same as other stock market. China stock market does not permit you to invest in world companies. World companies stock market has been going down unless you know which companies to invest in.
I recommend energy, industrial materials such as gold and other minerals, and pharmaceuticals.
