How do I teach my dog potty matter?

All those who have dogs will agree that teaching potty manners is a tough act, that has no guaranteed period or degree of success. One dog may get it right in a few days while another will take months. Imagine the trouble of cleaning up carpets, mats, cushions and bed covers. Sometimes a dog will take a liking for a particular curtain and will drive you crazy by repeatedly soiling it. We dog lovers dont like to beat up the puppies so what do we do? Anyway beating up is never a solution. My new dog is giving me hell; its a labrador. I have had labradors before but this one proving to be a tough dog to teach. Somebody help me please.

It is very important how you talk to your dog, staying calm in your voice is what they respect. Yelling will only frighten them. You also need to let the pup know he has done wrong. Catching him in the act is vital - then put him outside were he is supposed to go. If you missed the action, don't bother correcting it I think. Hope some of that is helpful! Training your dog can take time, but it is the way to go if you want a real companion. Don't stop at potty training! BTW ~ It shouldn't take very long (few weeks tops)
